Under the CLT, employees who work inside the cold rooms are guaranteed breaks of 20 minutes for every 1h40 worked. The system aims to guarantee rights for 16 thousand employees in six factories.
TIVIT, a Brazilian multinational and technology one-stop shop, developed and implemented a system based on the Internet of Things (IoT) technology for one of the largest meatpackers in the country to manage the thermal break of 16,000 employees who work inside the chambers. slaughterhouses in six factories.
In accordance with the Consolidation of Labor Laws (CLT), for employees who work inside the cold storage rooms and for those who move goods from the hot or normal environment to the cold and vice versa, a period of 20 minutes of rest is ensured. paid after every 1h40 of effective work. The meatpacker's challenge is to manage the period so that breaks are respected, in order to ensure workers' rights and prevent possible labor lawsuits.

Paid rest is essential because environments with negative temperature can cause discomfort, occupational diseases, work accidents and even lead to death from hypothermia. Depending on the situation, the company may suffer severe penalties if it is proven that the employee was affected by a health problem or accident due to negligence of this precept.
The project consists of installing an IoT system with 75 monitoring portals and 16,000 badges with technology bluetooth and application in the cloud, for real-time data analysis and generation of alarms and reports on employees who circulate inside the cold rooms. With this, the company has information on the length of stay of each employee in the cold areas and is able to coordinate its teams more efficiently and, in this way, hopes to guarantee the quality of life and health of the worker and reduce the volume of labor complaints and consequently of compensation on the subject.
“Managing employees in large companies brings enormous challenges, and technology can help reinforce the human factor,” says Valdinei Cornatione, head of Technology Platforms at TIVIT. “This is one of TIVIT's most relevant IoT projects and it brings a great cost-benefit ratio to the customer, as it provides a real-time overview to supervisors, who can act immediately in the event of a possible alert. irregularity”, he adds.
There is still no estimate of results, the real impact of the project, according to the legal department of the refrigerator, will be measured after the first three years. However, a second implementation stage is planned to expand the system to 26 distribution centers.
