Michel Gobbato takes on the role with the challenge of leading a team of 3,000 professionals and supporting the largest companies in the financial sector in the innovative use of emerging technologies

Michel Gobbato

Michel Gobbato is the new Head of Banking at NTT DATA. He has been with NTT DATA for nine years and takes over the role from Francisco Murillo Laraz, who led banking operations for 9 years. Murillo takes on a new global challenge within NTT DATA.

At 48 years old, Gobbatto will lead an area with around 3 thousand professionals, who serve the main players in the country's financial sector. "I am taking on the challenge of maintaining NTT DATA as one of the main strategic partners of banks and companies in the financial sector, supporting them in the conscious use of emerging technologies that can increase efficiency, innovation and delivery of personalized services to customers." According to a Gartner report, NTT DATA has 5% of the market share in the financial sector in Brazil, slightly below the leader, which has 5.2%.

According to the executive, banks today face a business environment marked by increased competition, including the entry of players from other sectors. This scenario demands greater innovation, customer knowledge to deliver personalized services and a time to market more aggressive.

“The launch of Pix increased banking in Brazil, which was a positive point for financial institutions,” says Gobbato. “The challenge is to reach them and build their loyalty.” How can this be achieved? By getting to know customers in depth and comprehensively, so that we can offer the services they want and need.

And, to achieve this goal, the use of emerging technologies is essential. According to Gobbato, banks still face the challenge of integrating their systems with the cloud. Without this step, the intelligent use of data and generative artificial intelligence is not possible. “In recent years, banks have invested millions of reais in adopting emerging technologies. But technology advances very quickly and what was done two years ago may be outdated today. Our role as consultancies is to support our clients on this journey.”

Generative AI is one example. “Not long ago, artificial intelligence was hardly talked about. Today, it is present, as a protagonist, in almost every conversation about technology,” says NTT DATA’s banking leader. “It has been applied in a variety of cases in the financial sector – from contract analysis to product suggestions.”
