the last day of ABES CONFERENCE 2021 - EXPONENTIAL WAVES AND DIGITAL RESILIENCE, on september 16, there was a moment of tribute to professionals who stand out in projects and activities that encourage and put into practice the digital and inclusive transformation in Brazil.
This recognition was conducted by the Brazil Movement, Digital Country, of which ABES is one of the leaders along with several partner entities. “We are honoring incredible professionals who are positively impacting the dynamics of digital transformation in the country, encouraging inclusion, entrepreneurship, citizenship, diversity, innovation and the digital economy”, explains Andriei Gutierrez, Co-founder of Brazil, País Digital.
Cíntia Luz Farias, the movement's Communication Director, also highlights that the award values people who are working intensely “to promote a more digital and less unequal country, through projects, actions or contributions to social impact initiatives”. The award is divided into two categories.
the category "Ambassador Brazil, Digital Country" named people who stood out in projects that promote digital and inclusive transformation in Brazil in 2021, selected by a committee. Those chosen were: Igor Calvet, President at the Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development – ABDI; Marcos Pontes, Astronaut and Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation; Saul Tourinho Leal, Partner at Ayres Britto Consultoria Jurídica e Advocacia; Federal Deputy Luísa Canziani (PTB/PR); and Rodolfo Fücher, president of ABES.
“Without a doubt, Brazil can and will stand out in this area of digital transformation. This is one of the banners I have been preaching at the ministry since the transition at the end of 2018. We started talking about the importance of promoting the internet of things, promoting artificial intelligence and promoting other types of technologies that could transform Brazil through digital possibilities”, highlighted minister Marcos Pontes during his participation in the digital event, speaking directly from the United States.

Already in the category "Protagonist Brazil, Digital Country", which was decided by public vote and competed by government professionals, organizations from the private sector, academia or the third sector, the winners were: Alan Leite, CEO, Startup Farm; José Gontijo, Director of the Department of Science, Technology and Digital Innovation at the Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovation (SEMPI) – Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI); Miriam Wimmer, Director, National Data Protection Authority – ANPD; Rony Vainzof, Director of the Department of Defense and Security, FIESP and Data Protection Consultant, Fecomercio/SP; Silvana Bahia, Co-Executive Director of Olabi.
Marcos Pontes closed the conference and the award, emphasizing the importance of science and technology for solving problems, including at this time of pandemic. “We saw the need for science and technology in the pandemic. Imagine doing all this genetic sequencing of these mutations that have been carried out at LNCC, the National Laboratory for Scientific Computing, a unit linked to the MCTI, developing new drugs and tests that are being carried out. If we didn't have these tools that we have today, we would be very bad”, he said.
The minister cited other examples, such as Brazil's actions in the area of Artificial Intelligence with the creation of six research centers on the subject that have already been implemented and two more that will be announced shortly. “Always count on the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. We have a long way to go to accomplish everything we need to do for our country. It is important that we remain optimistic. We will be able to get there”.
