Thanks to the power of the cloud, airlines can now bring new efficiencies to their operations

As soon as its migration process was completed, LATAM stopped emitting 3,400 tons of carbon dioxide

The LATAM group concluded the technological migration process of its four data centers in Brazil and Chile, moving from a physical infrastructure to a 100% technology architecture based on the cloud, all without interrupting its operations and generating new efficiencies. The initiative, which started in 2021, had Google Cloud as a strategic ally, consolidating a long-term relationship between the companies, which began in 2017.

With the transformation, LATAM migrated to a virtual platform that delivers scalability, flexibility and cost efficiency. By concentrating 95% of its infrastructure on Google Cloud, LATAM gains agility to access and implement new cloud-based solutions. “This process was fundamental for LATAM's modernization and digital transformation objectives. The fact that we are operating 100% in a cloud environment allows us to offer a better response to the company's current challenges, in addition to making us more competitive and efficient for our customers”, claims Juliana Rios, Chief Information Officer (CIO) of LATAM Airlines Group

Google Cloud worked together with LATAM with its teams and expertise to assist in the migration process, and also to explore new possibilities for using technology in its operations. “Working side by side with our customers is what motivates us every day”, comment Eduardo López, President of Google Cloud for Latin America“In the case of LATAM, one of the customers with whom we have maintained a relationship for so long, it is a great pride to accompany them in such an important moment as the total migration to the cloud, setting a benchmark for the rest of the industry”.

Migrating to the cloud and reducing environmental impact

As soon as it migrated to Google's cloud, LATAM stopped emitting 3,400 tons of carbon dioxide from its IT infrastructure.

The relationship between this reduction in environmental impact and the migration to the cloud lies in Google Cloud's constant effort to remain the greenest cloud on the market. In 2017, Google became the first major company to match its energy use with 100% renewable energy – a milestone reached every year since.
