According to IDC, by 2026, the ICT market in Latin America will demand around 2.5 million professionals in Latin America and the Caribbean. In an exclusive look at Brazil, Brasscom (Association of Information and Communication Technology Companies) estimates that the labor deficit in the sector will jump from 420,000 in 2021 to 800,000 by 2025. Brasil, a subsidiary of the worldwide distributor that helps companies realize the promise of technology, now sponsors and supports Escola da Nuvem, a project by the homonymous non-profit entity, whose mission is to train and employ vulnerable people in the technology market. The partnership foresees that, in addition to financial support for the initiative, aimed at IT training for people in vulnerable situations, Ingram Micro will include project students in its hiring framework and enable their inclusion in its network of channels, which demands workforce specialized in cloud computing. By the end of 2023, Escola da Nuvem expects to graduate 3,000 students.

For Flávio Moraes Jr., VP & Brazil Chief Executive of Ingram Micro, this is an opportunity to promote IT specialization in the national territory, help people who need support to be inserted in the technology job market, in addition to reducing the market's lack of prepared professionals. “It is a market trend. Demands are not being met due to a lack of trained professionals, so technology companies need to unite and strengthen initiatives such as Escola da Nuvem to feed back their ecosystems and, at the same time, generate the possibility of bringing a different future to those who need professional placement”.

The idea of implementing the project came from Rafael Marangoni, CEO of BRLink, a company acquired by Ingram Micro last year. “Rafael was the creator of Escola da Nuvem, together with Flávio Rescia Dias, in 2020. They shared with other businessmen in the segment the concept and intention of doing something that went beyond training professionals. The project aims to transform lives, combat vulnerability through employment in the technology market and encourage inclusion,” says Ana Leticia Lucca, CEO of Escola da Nuvem.

So far, the Escola da Nuvem project has trained 410 students in AWS and Microsoft Azure technologies, and its professional outplacement rate is 71%. Students are people in a situation of socioeconomic vulnerability, usually unemployed or underemployed, who would hardly have a chance of entering the IT market, or even considered minorities, whether by race, gender or because they live in distant or peripheral regions.

Ingram Micro will contribute on several fronts of the project: financially, with mentors and volunteers and, mainly, by hiring students. “We live a great paradox in Brazil. In a country where the number of unemployed or underemployed people is huge, we know that there is a very high demand for technology professionals that the market cannot meet. It lacks training, giving opportunities and stimulating people through education. At Ingram Micro we follow a rigorous Code of Conduct based on innovation, integrity, respect, learning, teamwork, corporate and social responsibility. Therefore, we want to do our part, opening doors and building paths for the most vulnerable, promoting inclusion and diversity”, explains Flávio Moraes Jr.

Rafael Marangoni, creator of Escola da Nuvem, also highlights the importance of the project for anyone looking for an opportunity in a new market area, with greater possibilities for professional growth. “In addition to empowering the most vulnerable people, we work tirelessly to ensure that every student finds their first job in the cloud. This focus on employability that Cloud Education has is sensational and unique. It is not enough just to train, it is very important to employ.”
