Huawei Brasil, together with the Itaipu Technological Park (PTI-Brasil) and Coopavel (Cooperativa Agroindustrial), a Protocol of Intent to develop an important partnership that will connect Brazilian agribusiness to the technology of modern 5G networks, more efficient, faster and secure data transmission. The objective is for it to be the largest open innovation project in Brazil in agribusiness. The signing ceremony was attended by the CEO of PTI-Brasil, General Eduardo Castanheira Garrido Alves, the Sales Director of Huawei, Francisco Menezes, and the CEO of Coopavel, Dilvo Grolli.
One of the actions already carried out was the installation of a modern 5G transmission antenna in the Show Rural Coopavel area, which guaranteed technological support for the testing and validation of new products and services by anchor companies, startups and academia. The antenna had a radius of coverage of up to 5 km, which will expand the capacity of concrete field experiences. A coworking space will also be set up to facilitate the working environment of the companies and professionals involved.
With the structure of the 5G network installed, Coopavel's customers and suppliers, as well as the agribusiness equipment and solutions industry, had the opportunity to test and validate several disruptive technologies and high-performance internet connection, such as: a) real-time monitoring and transmission of high-definition images of the soil and plantations for remote monitoring and technical guidance; b) the operation of machines and equipment, such as tractors, harvesters, planters, seeders and sprayers in a more autonomous and intelligent manner; and c) accurate and detailed information on the animals' diet, behavior and health, as well as on climatic conditions.

Approximately R﹩ 6 million will be invested in the initial phase of the project. Most of the funds will come from Huawei, a world reference in 5G technology, through the Information Technology Law, with contributions and implementation of the Itaipu Technological Park, responsible for the selection and incubation of startups, and in actions to meet concrete demands for open innovation from Coopavel and its cooperative network in 21 municipalities in the West and Southwest regions of Paraná. The innovative solutions developed will be presented in the next edition of the Show Rural Coopavel, in 2022.
“This partnership represents a milestone for open innovation in agribusiness. We are very happy to participate in this project that will contribute to the digital transformation in the field. The western region of Paraná has the most fertile and valued land in Paraná, with high productivity rates. We are the largest producer of corn and soybeans and one of the regions that produces the most chicken, pork and milk. With the innovation and strength of cooperativism, we are going to improve our productivity and profitability even more”, says the superintendent director of PTI-Brasil, General Eduardo Castanheira Garrido Alves.
“5G mobile technology, in addition to faster navigation, promises to create a great revolution in the sector through the possibilities of automation and real-time data generation in various sectors of the production chain. Agribusiness is very relevant for the country, it has the potential to generate business models for Huawei, and also to boost technological development in Brazil”, says Francisco Menezes, Sales Director at Huawei.
