Between the 3rd and 10th of September, the documentary ” the debater“, by Joshua Davis and Harry Spitzer, will be shown in 10th Cinema Echospeaker Exhibition, South American audiovisual event dedicated to themes of impact on society, online and free of charge. The exhibition also addresses subjects such as activism, biodiversity, work and technology.
"The Debater" offers a rare glimpse behind the scenes of the creation of the Project Debate, IBM's first AI system that can debate with humans on complex topics and capable of assimilating massive texts, constructing a well-structured discourse on a given topic, presenting it with clarity and purpose. The short shows the commitment of an IBM team to take AI into uncharted territory and tries to answer the following question: What happens when AI ventures into the real world of human speech and acts more like us? The film is also running for an audience prize, in which viewers can vote and choose their favourite. The subtitled trailer is available at this link.
This is the first time the doc will be shown in Brazil, but it has been featured in other film festivals around the world, including the CPH: DOX (International Documentary Festival of Copenhagen), Indianapolis International Film Festival, Lighthouse International Film Festival, Rhode Island International Film Festival and Twister Alley Film Festival.
