Program promotes entrepreneurship focused on solving social and environmental problems
The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) selected 20 new businesses for the Creation stage of the program BNDES Garage – Impact Business. The initiative, in partnership with the AWL consortium (Artemisia, Wayra and Liga Ventures), aims to contribute to the creation and acceleration of solutions for social and/or environmental impact , stimulating entrepreneurship and helping to develop businesses with a positive return for society and the market.
In all, 45 startups will participate in the first cycle of the program. In addition to the 20 startups in the Creation stage, on September 27th, another 25 were announced for the Traction stage. Of the total of 1366 enterprises that signed up for the BNDES Garagem – Impact Business program, 766 are in the Creation stage.
For the director of Participations, Capital Markets and Indirect Credit at BNDES, Bruno Laskowsky, the program has fulfilled its purpose with excellence and is one of the institution's initiatives focused on social and environmental impact. “Investing in programs like this reinforces the BNDES' commitment to developing the Entrepreneurship ecosystem and the importance of the socio-environmental agenda in the country”, he assesses.
The 20 projects that will be accelerated at this stage of creation seek to create or improve a minimum viable product (MVP) and develop solutions for social, environmental and productivity challenges”, he says. “It is important to highlight that half of those selected are from the North, Northeast and Midwest regions of Brazil and that there is a relevant participation of women entrepreneurs. We believe that this diversity will bring gains to the ecosystem of innovation and impact, in addition to contributing positively to the lives of Brazilians”, concludes Laskowsky.
The selected businesses will receive all the necessary support to develop the MVP, validate the solution in the market, launch the startup and win the first customers. For three months, the selected startups will receive support from the BNDES, the AWL Consortium and market partners, both to stimulate their growth, as well as for possible business and investments.
“The Creation stage was designed for those who are beginning to undertake with impact and need support in their first steps. Our objective is to give great visibility to participating startups, with the possibility of connections with potential partners, clients and investors”, explains Felipe Alves, Selection Leader of the AWL Consortium.
