Amazon Web Services (AWS) is announcing a new global program to support organizations working to improve health outcomes in underrepresented or underserved communities. The company will grant credits and technical knowledge of AWS, committing US$ 40 million over three years.
This program is open to organizations around the world who want to take advantage of AWS in any of the following areas:

- Increase access to health services for underserved communities. Today, approximately half of the world population does not have access to basic health care. This can include developing tools such as telehealth and telemedicine to reach remote and marginalized communities, remotely monitoring patients, increasing the availability and impact of healthcare professionals, and much more.
- Dealing with the social determinants of health: The social determinants of health (SDoH) are the environmental conditions in which people are born, live, learn, work, play and age, which affect a wide range of health risks and outcomes. Examples include safe housing, transportation, education, access to nutritious food, clean air and water. An search shows that improving these non-medical factors is critical to reducing health inequities.
- Leverage data to promote more equitable and inclusive care systems: Gaps in health data contribute to inequalities when national and global averages and health statistics reporting do not represent diverse groups. Eligible projects that address these gaps may include creating or consolidating datasets to increase representation in healthcare systems, linking to SDoH data to create more robust and informative datasets, or cleaning up existing datasets to improve accuracy on race, ethnicity, gender, disability, or other points that will help promote health equity.
The program is open to accredited research institutions, consortia, non-profit organizations and private or public entities.
