AWS will allocate promotional credits to support organizations affected by natural hazards that perform critical roles for communities across Latin America and Canada

Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced the expansion of the Resilience Project to Latin America and Canada, following the program's success in 2020 in Central American and Caribbean countries. as part of AWS Disaster Response Program, the Resilience Project supports disaster-affected organizations whose continuity of operations is critical to community resilience. In preparation for the hurricane season and winter storms, AWS is offering up to US$5,000 in company promotional credits to support projects related to business continuity in the cloud.

Governments, health institutions, non-profit organizations and educational institutions will be able to prepare for the upcoming 2022 hurricane season, which runs from June to November, and in the case of South American countries for the winter wave, which begins on the 21st. June and ends in September.

In Latin America, storms are becoming more powerful due to climate change. According to the United Nations, since 2000, an average of 17 hurricanes have hit the region each year. Additionally, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts that this year's hurricane season will have a 65% chance of being above normal.

“The goal of the project is to enable customers to maintain business continuity in the face of disasters and increase the resilience of organizations,” said Abby Daniell, AWS Public Sector Program Manager for Latin America, Canada and the Caribbean. “The credits will be valid for one year and can be used to develop a comprehensive disaster recovery plan,” he said.

While there is no way to prevent a natural disaster, it does make a difference to be able to handle these situations. As a result, the cloud becomes the best ally to ensure the availability of information, including power outages, Internet downtime, floods, and other disasters.

Credits can be granted directly to customers or partners of AWS Partner Network (APN) that provide professional support to new customers. “For AWS it will always be a priority to make all of its services available to connect regions that lose connection to the world due to a disaster, reconnect these areas and collaborate with those affected”, concluded the executive.
