This Thursday (06/05), Aleksandar Mandic, one of the pioneers of the internet in Brazil, died. He was an entrepreneur in the telecommunications industry and one of the first to explore the internet commercially in Brazil in the 1990s.
Founder of Mandic BBS and the iG portal, the businessman was one of the first to connect Brazilians in chats via a BBS - Bulletin Board System, an old electronic information system over telephone connections. As a pioneer, Mandic laid the foundations of his first company in the garage of his home, while still working for Siemens, and has not stopped undertaking since.
ABES expresses its regret at the death of Aleksandar Mandic and is in solidarity with family and friends in this moment of pain for the loss. We pay our tribute to a respected human and professional, considered a reference in the Brazilian technology sector for encouraging innovation and investing in new technologies.
Mandic Cloud Solutions, the company he helped found in 2002, issued a statement regarding what happened, which we reproduce as part of this tribute: “It is with immense regret that we received the news about the death of Aleksandar Mandic this Thursday afternoon fair. Mandic was a visionary leader who contributed strongly to the development of the internet and new technologies in Brazil. He was no longer part of the shareholding structure of our company, but his innovative spirit will always be with us.
