If there is one certainty in the IT area for the upcoming new year, it is that cyber security threats will grow in number and sophistication. And CEOs, due to the responsibility inherent to their position, are one of the main targets of cybercriminals. As the world's most experienced provider of immutable backup, recovery, and storage solutions for unified data resilience against ransomware and disasters, Arcserve has identified three resolutions that could make all the difference for business leaders in 2024.

“Today, bad actors do not distinguish their targets by the size of the organization or area of activity. All companies are seen as potential victims”, analyzes Caio Sposito, country manager at Arcserve Brasil, highlighting that the CEO today needs to adopt a new stance in relation to security issues, starting to get directly involved in this issue, even due to the immense damage what a successful attack could do to the organization he commands and, consequently, to his own professional career.

“In 2024, it is critical that CEOs actively participate in cybersecurity discussions, as leaders set the tone for the company’s priorities and values. By actively engaging in discussions and decisions related to data protection, they send a clear message about the importance of this strategy and this adherence is also essential to guarantee the necessary resources to implement such initiatives”, comments the executive, remembering that projects Data protection and disaster recovery systems often require substantial investments in technology, staff training, and infrastructure.

Because they often have a deep understanding of the company's core functions, critical data and key stakeholders, CEOs are in a unique position to identify potential risks and vulnerabilities. “But that alone is not enough. It is necessary to encourage awareness of dangers throughout the organization and this is a leadership prerogative”, warns Caio Sposito.

In this regard, he highlights the importance of holding regular training sessions to keep everyone informed about evolving threats and the importance of disaster recovery planning. “A dedicated cybersecurity committee or working group, led by management, can also facilitate active participation and ongoing development of clear policies, including including disaster recovery and cybersecurity considerations in strategic planning sessions and regular meetings of the board highlights the importance of these issues at the highest levels of decision-making”, notes the executive.

The third stance that CEOs should adopt in 2024 to protect their organizations is to approach external experts and participate in strategic events. “Bringing in external perspectives enhances awareness of emerging threats as well as industry best practices. Furthermore, carrying out regular exercises and simulations allows you to actively test the organization's intervention mechanisms and identify areas for improvement”, advises the executive.

“Active management involvement in disaster recovery planning fosters a true culture of resilience that is a central part of Arcserve’s strategy. By emphasizing the importance of data protection and preparation for this scenario of growing threats, leaders can ensure the prosperity of their businesses, even in the face of a disaster”, summarizes Caio Sposito.
