Microsoft AI will power gameday and workday experiences for the league and its teams<\/em><\/p>\n

The National Football League (NFL) and Microsoft announced today the renewal of a multi-year strategic partnership, marking the beginning of a new era of artificial intelligence innovation across the league. Technologies like Microsoft Copilot and Azure AI are helping the league and its teams improve pitchside evaluation and workflows, identify new talent, and optimize operations that keep stadiums running smoothly.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With 30 stadiums, more than 330 events annually, and hundreds of millions of fans, the NFL is one of the most-watched sports leagues in the world. The integration of Microsoft's enterprise AI solutions and cloud and AI platforms on game days will enable coaches and players to access and analyze real-time insights and performance, making more informed decisions in a more efficient and personalized way.<\/p>\n

With Microsoft\u2019s AI technologies, including Copilot, there are incredible opportunities to elevate the gameday experience for our clubs and deliver an even more engaging product to our fans.\u201d<\/p>\n

Improving Game Day Decisions with Copilot<\/strong><\/p>\n

The NFL's Sideline Viewing System for each club has been upgraded with more than 2,500 Microsoft Surface Copilot+ PCs, empowering 32 clubs, nearly 1,800 players, and more than 1,000 coaches and staff with real-time game data and analysis tools. Coaches and players have access to a new feature built with GitHub Copilot to filter plays based on criteria such as down and distance, scoring plays, and penalties, allowing them to quickly analyze formations, decipher coverages, and make more strategic, data-driven decisions.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaking good decisions and positioning players optimally on the field is a coach\u2019s primary responsibility,\u201d said Sean McVay, head coach of the Los Angeles Rams. \u201cMicrosoft Copilot improves our efficiency and accuracy by transforming complex data into actionable insights that can be quickly communicated to players and help them reach their full potential.\u201d<\/p>\n

A dashboard powered by Microsoft 365 Copilot helps club analysts in coaching booths more quickly identify actionable insights to influence game strategies\u2014such as player groupings and play counts.<\/p>\n

The road to game day starts with Microsoft AI<\/strong><\/p>\n

The NFL and Microsoft are also working to utilize AI beyond the sidelines, supporting roles like game operations managers. Ongoing research and development efforts through the partnership include a game-day operations dashboard, powered by Copilot, to track and categorize major incidents that occur each year\u2014such as weather delays or technical issues with equipment\u2014that could impact weekly operations, with the goal of improving future decision-making.<\/p>\n

Microsoft is also working to incorporate Azure AI-powered video tools into individual clubs' training sessions, aiding in training review, assessments, and player injury analysis. Most recently, during the\u00a02025 NFL Scouting Combine<\/a>, coaches and scouts from clubs across the league used an application powered by Microsoft Azure AI Foundry to gain smarter, real-time insights into more than 300 prospects.<\/p>\n

"The NFL and Microsoft partnership is entering a new era, and we're proud that the league is once again trusting Microsoft to bring AI to the NFL," said Bryson Gordon, Microsoft's Corporate Vice President of Global Marketing. "Expanding the partnership is more than just a football story; it's a transformational model. Whether preparing for the championship or managing a global enterprise, the principles are the same: insights matter, preparation is essential, and the ability to act quickly is critical," he said.<\/p>\n

Soon, individual clubs will be able to apply AI to a variety of other scenarios, including analyzing draft prospect performance outside of the NFL Combine, providing data-driven insights for club business and sports operations, and boosting productivity across business functions such as finance, human resources, and events. Working with the 32 NFL clubs, employees will soon be able to use AI agents to support and improve various workflows, including player recruitment and salary cap management.<\/p>\n

Some clubs, like\u00a0Tampa Bay Buccaneers<\/a>, are already using Copilot to help with marketing, promotions, and fan engagement. The NFL Players Association is also\u00a0using Microsoft AI solutions<\/a>\u00a0as part of their video review process, helping to improve team efficiency and player safety.<\/p>\n
