The number of women in the technology sector in the country grew by 4.6% compared to last year, going from 69.8 thousand to 73 thousand professionals, according to a new study by Serasa Experian, the first and largest datatech company in Brazil. Despite this progress, the presence is still low and corresponds to only 0.08% of the female population aged 18 and over, compared to 0.07% in 2024. The survey was carried out on a base of more than 93.5 million women aged 18 and over with the objective of understanding the profile of women working in the sector. Compared to the male population, 0.34% work in IT, according to a survey carried out with 92.7 million men in the country.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cGrowth is a step forward, but there is still a long way to go to reduce gender inequality in the sector. Female representation remains low, and companies need to continue investing in initiatives that encourage the training and hiring of women through training programs and gender equity policies in the job market. Diversity not only strengthens the market, but also drives innovation and competitiveness in companies,\u201d says Mayara Gomes, Human Resources Director at Serasa Experian.<\/p>\n

Women in tech are great payers<\/strong><\/p>\n

Another piece of information revealed was about the professionals' Credit Score. According to the survey, almost 50% have a Score between 601 and 1000, indicating an excellent credit profile, which is impacted by paying bills on time, which increases the chances of obtaining credit in the market, in addition to better costs and conditions for a loan or financing. Meanwhile, 29.7% are in the range of 401 to 600. More ranges are available below, check them out:<\/p>\n

The study also showed that most IT professionals earn between R$2,000 and R$4,000 per month (38.4%), while 13.5% have an income of over R$10,000. In addition, 52.2% belong to class AB and 33.1% to class C. Check out the details of these cuts in the tables below:<\/span><\/p>\n

Southeast leads in number of women in technology<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Regarding geographic distribution, the state of S\u00e3o Paulo has the largest number of women in the sector, with 31.5%, followed by Rio de Janeiro (11.2%) and Minas Gerais (8.4%). See the ranking by Federative Units (UFs) in the graph below:<\/p>\n

Serasa Experian: Women in IT represent 27%<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Serasa Experian currently has 44.4% women on its staff, 38.9% of whom are in leadership positions and 27% who work in IT. \u201cThe percentage of 0.08% of female participation reflects the disparity and the urgent need to promote gender diversity in the segment. Juliana Cust\u00f3dio, Director of Data Platforms and Machine Learning Operations at Serasa Experian, accepted the invitation in January 2024 to lead the data engineering area at Serasa Experian, attracted by the company's commitment to innovation and diversity. As a woman and leader in a predominantly male sector, Juliana says she has faced challenges over the years, but learned to position herself. \u201cFeeling confident and recognizing my potential was essential to perform well in my career,\u201d she highlights. Today, she encourages other women to prepare themselves, build good connections and not limit themselves due to insecurities in the pursuit of their goals.<\/p>\n

For women who want to pursue a similar career, she has some advice: \u201cPrepare yourself, and preparing means studying, having a plan, and seeking out self-knowledge tools. Also, don\u2019t treat yourself differently or be afraid of a position you want. Being in an unfamiliar environment or embracing something new is part of your evolution. Insecurity and butterflies in your stomach are part of the journey to build a career.\u201d<\/p>\n
