The report shows that\u00a0<strong>Brazil is the country that sends the most threats of extortion and sextortion.\u00a0<\/strong><em><b>sextorsion<\/b><\/em><strong>), which is sexual blackmail.<\/strong>\u00a0The United States, on the other hand, is the main target of extortion. The study is based on unique IP addresses.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-44178 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/abes.org.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/unnamed.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"551\" height=\"249\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abes.org.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/unnamed.png 551w, https:\/\/abes.org.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/unnamed-480x217.png 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 551px, 100vw\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Although total blocked threats showed a decrease of 13.2% in December, they registered an increase in the fourth quarter, especially in November, closing the year with\u00a0<strong>94.2 billion* attempted cyber attacks, an increase of 42% from 2020.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-44179 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/abes.org.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/unnamed-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"602\" height=\"249\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abes.org.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/unnamed-1.png 602w, https:\/\/abes.org.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/unnamed-1-480x199.png 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 602px, 100vw\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>ransomware<\/strong><b><br \/>\n<\/b><br \/>\nAs of June 2021, the United States is also the country with the highest number of ransomware registrations, followed by France, Hong Kong and Italy in the December ranking. India was in fifth place, displacing Belgium, which was present in the Top 5 in October and November.<br \/>\nThe survey confirms the change in the profile of modern ransomware, which has ceased to be massified and has become targeted since 2018, valuing targets with greater financial returns. Despite the slight increase in 2019, the downward trend is expected to persist. In 2021, a total of\u00a0<strong>14 million ransomware attacks worldwide<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-44180 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/abes.org.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/unnamed-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"602\" height=\"287\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abes.org.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/unnamed-2.png 602w, https:\/\/abes.org.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/unnamed-2-480x229.png 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 602px, 100vw\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Threats via email<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Considering email threats, the United States was the top country attacked throughout 2021, with 32.6% of the total. It was followed, in December, by China, India and Germany. France took fifth place, leaving out Russia which had appeared in the top five targets in November.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"m_-3158276253089236678_x0000_i1028\" class=\"CToWUd\" src=\"https:\/\/ci3.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/vfKum2IucNm22C3i5C6qIIv_GmsCfoVtRYV2gSgk6MEMrUJPeEpp0jRSri2Uw3qZuEY4Tojlg-8H0AhF2svcaiToPCj278qXo6g=s0-d-e1-ft#http:\/\/dfreire.tempsite.ws\/email\/trendmicro100322_4.png\" width=\"186\" height=\"218\" border=\"0\" \/><u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p><strong>Most attacked sectors<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The banking, healthcare and government sectors took turns leading the attacks throughout the year, closing 2021 with the government in the lead, followed by healthcare, transport, industry and financial markets. In the Americas, the health area was the most targeted, although in the\u00a0<strong>Brazil the main target remains the governmental<\/strong>.<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"m_-3158276253089236678_x0000_i1027\" class=\"CToWUd a6T\" src=\"https:\/\/ci3.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/CTxQkc5ioQDdmMe36c-EUA-6gRc3QR1HDqz36KC-6rWBVGjoRANf874pE-VbyANaiTiEwM95sRyT8kKplCMGdQ1V9WZ2MlVJpII=s0-d-e1-ft#http:\/\/dfreire.tempsite.ws\/email\/trendmicro100322_5.png\" width=\"307\" height=\"269\" border=\"0\" \/><u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p><strong>Covid-19 as bait<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Most threats that use the Covid-19 theme are carried out via emails. A significant drop was observed from May to June, but in August it rose again. In addition to the SPN sensors, the data collected also came from researchers at Trend Micro, the Zero Day Initiative (ZDI) team, the Threat Hunting team, the Mobile Application Reputation Service (MARS) team, and the Smart Home Network.
