The digital certification market has been breaking consecutive records. More than 630,000 digital certificates were issued in June this year alone, according to the National Institute of Information Technology (ITI), a federal agency linked to the Civil House of the Presidency of the Republic, which maintains the Brazilian Public Key Infrastructure (ICP- Brazil).<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n
June registered about 112,000 digital certificates more when compared to the same period in 2020, representing a growth of 21.8%. The 3,688,662 certificates issued in this first half of 2021 already represent 60,78% of the total issued in 2020.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n
According to the autarchy, there was a growth of more than 30% in the market, which indicates a popularization of the technology in the country, with 13 consecutive months of monthly emissions records.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n
But there is still room to grow. According to a survey on the digital maturity of Brazilian retail, released by the Institute of Digital Transformation (ITD), around 60% of companies do not use a digital certificate. \u201cThe data is worrying, as we see several cases of electronic fraud and cyber attacks\u201d, points out the executive president of the Association of Registration Authorities of Brazil (AARB) Edmar Ara\u00fajo.<\/u><\/u><\/p>\n
According to Ara\u00fajo, the widespread use of digital certificates is positive, but still incipient, taking into account the size of the market in Brazil. \u201cIn addition, it is urgent that companies, especially small and medium-sized ones, prioritize the encryption of both their data and that of their customers and suppliers. Data hijackings (ransomware) and information leaks can pose serious risks.
