Huawei has partnered with the Regional Education Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean (OREALC), which is part of UNESCO, to jointly promote the development of digital talent in Latin America.<\/p>\n
The two organizations signed a Letter of Intent at an online forum hosted by both and said they had identified a number of areas of potential cooperation, such as digital skills development for women and children and digital literacy programs for teachers.<\/p>\n
Huawei and OREALC will also work together to provide digital skills training for vulnerable populations. Companies will organize events such as webinars and workshops to raise awareness of the importance of inclusive digital talent development.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the forum, Claudia Uribe Salazar, director of OREALC, said that it is part of UNESCO's objective to contribute to the promotion of inclusive education and that the joint effort is in line with the entity's objective of seeking to mobilize civil society and the sector private sector for the fulfillment of its strategic objectives in terms of education.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince the beginning of the Pandemic, UNESCO has been actively working with the Ministries of Education and has been partnering with the private sector to respond effectively to its effects, taking into account the diversity of contexts and the realities of our region. We are ensuring that fieldwork is responding to the specific needs of local communities and countries, and is being implemented in a participatory, collaborative and consensual way. Information and communication technologies are being important allies in offering remote and flexible learning\u201d, she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Letter of Intent is the result of several months of work between UNESCO and Huawei, during which both institutions have been sharing visions, experiences and plans for the future of Education in Latin America and prioritizing areas of common work such as competences for teachers in ICT (Information and Communication Technology).\u201d<\/p>\n
Catherine Chen, director of Huawei Technologies, said that Huawei invests in developing digital talent around the world and has significantly increased this investment in recent years as part of its corporate social responsibility. \u201cDigital skills have become an essential building block of the new digital economy and an important pillar of future prosperity,\u201d she said. \u201cWe are happy to find partners who are working for the same cause of growing new digital talent for our future\u201d.<\/p>\n
OREALC was created in 1963 with the aim of supporting Member States in improving their educational systems, with the firm conviction that education is a human right for all throughout life.<\/p>\n
