Even with the global economy having a loss equivalent to 255 million full-time jobs in 2020 *, the study shows that voluntary job changes and skills development remain a priority in today&#039;s job market, as employees may be looking for career changes due to disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>The study of more than 14,000 adults worldwide also showed that many of those who voluntarily changed jobs in 2020 can change again in 2021 for many of the same reasons. The discoveries in Brazil included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In Brazil,\u00a0<strong>1 in 10 people <\/strong>who responded to the survey quit their jobs voluntarily last year during the pandemic. The main reasons why respondents decided to quit were:<\/li>\n<li><strong> 29%<\/strong>they needed more flexibility in time or place of work (for example, the ability to work remotely to deal with family demands);<\/li>\n<li><strong> 26%<\/strong>they sought more benefits and support for their well-being;<\/li>\n<li><strong> 23%<\/strong>they said they did not have good prospects for career advancement or job security;<\/li>\n<li><strong> 31%<\/strong>of Brazilians surveyed said they plan to change jobs in 2021. The most common reasons are to seek salary increases or promotion\u00a0<strong>(33%),<\/strong>more benefits and support for your well-being\u00a0<strong>(29%),<\/strong>\u00a0to change profession\u00a0<strong>(27%)<\/strong>\u00a0or have a job with more purpose and meaning\u00a0<strong>(25%);<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>23%<\/strong>\u00a0said they were facing a\u00a0<em>burn out<\/em>\u00a0(mental exhaustion).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Employers continue to face challenges in attracting, retaining and engaging candidates and employees, especially Generation Z and Generation Y, says Kelly Ribeiro, IBM&#039;s Talent and Transformation Leader for Latin America. &quot;The good news is that I have seen successful experiences in Latin American companies that are taking an analytical and data-based approach with AI to address this challenge and also to better understand, personalize and anticipate employees&#039; needs,&quot; he adds.<\/p>\n<p><u>Employees value career opportunities and company ethics and values<\/u><\/p>\n<p>In Brazil, 52% of consumers surveyed said that to engage employees, it is necessary to generate opportunities for career development and advancement. Almost the same percentage believes that the company&#039;s ethics and values (51%) are also a key attribute. Competitive remuneration and benefits (46%) as well as the balance between professional and personal life \/ flexibility (44%) were also mentioned as priorities.<\/p>\n<p><u>There is a perception gap between employers and employees about their skills<\/u><\/p>\n<p>According to a 2019 IBV study on the global skills gap, 45% of the organizations surveyed indicated that they cannot find the skills they need. But the recent IBV consumer survey released today showed confidence on the part of workers: 87% of professionals believe they already have the necessary skills to meet their employment goals for 2021. Despite this confidence, most employees continue to plan measures to improve their skills for the future.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong> 58%<\/strong>of those surveyed in Brazil stated that they intend to take continuing education courses online;<\/li>\n<li><strong> 36%\u00a0<\/strong>interviewed consumers plan to take face-to-face courses;<\/li>\n<li><strong> 35%<\/strong>want to participate in\u00a0<em>shadowing\u00a0<\/em>professional.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Study methodology<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To better understand consumers&#039; plans and motivations to leave or stay with their employers and invest in their own professional development, IBM interviewed more than 14,000 adults in January 2021 in 9 countries: Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, India, Mexico , Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States.
