Before reaching the Plenary, the nominations had already been approved by the Senate Infrastructure Commission (CI) on Monday (19).<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm;text-align: justify;line-height: 115%\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">Created by the General Law of Protection of Personal Data (LGPD - <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planalto.gov.br\/ccivil_03\/_ato2015-2018\/2018\/lei\/L13709.htm\">Law 13,709, of 2018<\/a>), the ANPD is responsible for ensuring the protection of personal data, ensuring the observance of commercial and industrial secrets and punishing any non-compliance with the legislation. The term of the members of the board of directors lasts for four years, but, in this first composition, the directors will have variable terms, from two to six years.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"margin: 0cm;text-align: justify;line-height: 115%\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">President<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">\u00a0<\/span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-25035 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/abes.org.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Waldemar-Gon\u00e7alves-Presidente-ANPD.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"326\" height=\"216\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abes.org.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Waldemar-Gon\u00e7alves-Presidente-ANPD.png 746w, https:\/\/abes.org.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Waldemar-Gon\u00e7alves-Presidente-ANPD-300x199.png 300w, https:\/\/abes.org.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Waldemar-Gon\u00e7alves-Presidente-ANPD-391x260.png 391w, https:\/\/abes.org.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Waldemar-Gon\u00e7alves-Presidente-ANPD-16x12.png 16w, https:\/\/abes.org.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Waldemar-Gon\u00e7alves-Presidente-ANPD-480x318.png 480w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 326px) 100vw, 326px\" \/><\/h3>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm;text-align: justify;line-height: 115%\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">The name of <b>Waldemar Gon\u00e7alves Ortunho Junior<\/b> (MSF <a href=\"https:\/\/www25.senado.leg.br\/web\/atividade\/materias\/-\/materia\/145158\">72\/2020<\/a>) was approved for the position of director-president of the ANPD&#039;s board of directors, with 39 votes in favor and five against, in addition to one abstention. He is an electronic engineer graduated from the Military Institute of Engineering, with a postgraduate degree in electrical engineering from the University of Bras\u00edlia and in pedagogy from the University of Quito. With 40 years of experience in the information technology area, Waldemar Junior is an Army officer graduated from the Military Academy of Agulhas Negras. He is the current president of Telebras (Telecomunica\u00e7\u00f5es Brasileiras SA), a position he has held since January 2019.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm;text-align: justify;line-height: 115%\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">In his presentation during the sabbatical at the Infrastructure Commission, Waldemar Junior stressed that the regulation of the General Law for the Protection of Personal Data, one of the objects of the ANPD&#039;s action, needs to follow the changes of this century and the use of the internet so that Brazil stay behind in the innovation race. He also stressed that the agency&#039;s management must take place in a way that does not interrupt \u201cthe use of the data, but ensure that it is shared responsibly\u201d. His term at the ANPD will be six years.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"margin: 0cm;text-align: justify;line-height: 115%\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">advice<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm;text-align: justify;line-height: 115%\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">In addition to the nomination of Waldemar Gon\u00e7alves Ortunho Junior, four other names were confirmed at the Senate Plenary to form the ANPD&#039;s board of directors.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm;text-align: justify;line-height: 115%\"><b><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">Arthur Pereira Sabbat<\/span><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\"> (MSF <a href=\"https:\/\/www25.senado.leg.br\/web\/atividade\/materias\/-\/materia\/145159\">73\/2020<\/a>) received 47 votes in favor and five against. Graduated in Communications from the Military Academy of Agulhas Negras and in Business Administration from the University Center of Bras\u00edlia, Sabbat will have a five-year term at the ANPD. He has been working in the Institutional Security Office of the Presidency of the Republic since 2018.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm;text-align: justify;line-height: 115%\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">The lawyer <b>Miriam Wimmer<\/b> (MSF <a href=\"https:\/\/www25.senado.leg.br\/web\/atividade\/materias\/-\/materia\/145160\">74\/2020<\/a>) also had its name confirmed to the board of the ANPD, with 46 votes in favor and five against. She is a native Brazilian, born in London, England. With a specialization and master&#039;s degree in Public Law and a doctorate in Communication, Miriam has been a servant of the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) since 2006, served on the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (CGI.br) and is currently director of Telecommunications Policies and Regulatory Monitoring Ministry of Communications. Her term as director will be two years.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm;text-align: justify;line-height: 115%\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">With 38 votes in favor and three against, plus one abstention, <b>Nairane Farias Rabelo Leit\u00e3o<\/b> (MSF <a href=\"https:\/\/www25.senado.leg.br\/web\/atividade\/materias\/-\/materia\/145161\">75\/2020<\/a>) was confirmed for a three-year term in the ANPD. Graduated in Law from the Federal University of Pernambuco, she has a specialization in Tax Law, Privacy and Data Protection. At the hearing at the Infrastructure Commission, she said that she intends to carry out the mandate at the ANPD with \u201cethics and commitment\u201d.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm;text-align: justify;line-height: 115%\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">Senators also confirmed the name of <b>Joacil Basilio Rael<\/b> (MSF <a href=\"https:\/\/www25.senado.leg.br\/web\/atividade\/materias\/-\/materia\/145162\">76\/2020<\/a>) for a four-year term in the ANPD. He received 38 votes in favor and five against, plus one abstention. Graduated in Artillery from the Military Academy of Agulhas Negras and in Computer Engineering from the Military Institute of Engineering, Rael has a master&#039;s degree in Computer Systems from the Military Institute of Engineering and a doctorate in Computer Science from the University of Bras\u00edlia. He currently serves as data protection officer at Telecomunica\u00e7\u00f5es Brasileiras SA (Telebras).<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"margin: 0cm;text-align: justify;line-height: 115%\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">Semi-presential<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm;text-align: justify;line-height: 115%\"><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;line-height: 115%;font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">The session for appraisal by the authorities was held semi-face-to-face, with part of the senators present at the Plenary and the other part participating remotely. The polls, held in the Senate building, could be made on totems specially created for this, placed in strategic places - aiming to avoid agglomerations.
