The IBM Netezza Performance Server as a Service solution on Amazon Web Services (AWS) enabled the cooperative's strategic transition of data to the cloud, aiming to accelerate operational efficiency and quality in data consumption for more than 8 million Sicoob members.

Sicoob, a cooperative financial institution with 8 million members and more than 4,600 service points in all states – implemented IBM Netezza Performance Server as a fully managed service on Amazon Web Services (IBM Netezza® SaaS on AWS), a cloud-native data analytics platform known for its high performance and real-time processing capacity, designed to handle data volumes on a scale of several petabytes efficiently and quickly. For over six years, Netezza technology has been providing high-performance analytics for hundreds of Sicoob cooperatives. Given the institution’s commitment to continuous modernization and the need to evolve its data architecture for new financial use cases powered by artificial intelligence, Sicoob has set its next major milestone: migrating 400 TB of its Netezzas data warehouses stored in IBM Cloud Pak for Data System for Netezza Performance Server on the AWS Cloud.

With over 17,000 users consuming data, 110,000 daily reports in IBM Cognos Analytics, and over 111 queries per minute during business hours, Sicoob turned to IBM Netezza’s SaaS solution on AWS to expand its analytical capabilities while maintaining system reliability and security. The cloud has opened up new possibilities for integration and scalability, allowing Sicoob to maintain its leadership in the cooperative financial sector and address current and future challenges with greater agility.

By moving to AWS, Sicoob is now able to manage and store a larger volume of data and power thousands of daily queries at scale. This has significantly improved the quality of several critical processes at the cooperative financial institution, such as risk management, regulatory compliance, customer service, and financial management.

According to Robson Jardim, IBM sales leader, the challenge presented by Sicoob was to provide a robust, resilient and high-performance solution in a cloud environment for its analytical load process and to ensure a flexible architecture for new analysis and AI projects. “The migration needed to be carried out in a way that preserved the integrations already established in the current environment on-premise, ensuring that the entire process was completed in a short period of a few months,” he says. “The vast experience of IBM, a world leader in data management, AI and data analysis solutions, combined with the support of its team of experts, was crucial to the success of the project, delivering results on time and with the expected quality.”

Sicoob takes advantage of the broad capabilities that the cloud environment provides, with a special focus on data analysis and the implementation of AI to improve the experience of its members and ensure sustainable growth, in harmony with the principles of cooperativism. “Sicoob enables its cooperatives to prosper financially and socially through sustainable financial solutions aligned with cooperative principles. The transition to a cloud-based solution, with IBM Netezza® SaaS on AWS, was straightforward and shows that it is possible to achieve greater operational efficiency in a secure and up-to-date cloud environment with predictable costs,” says Antonio Vilaça Júnior, CIO of Sicoob. “It is equally important to highlight that, in a business context, where business decisions are increasingly data-driven and analytical processing is a vital component for success, selecting IBM as a business partner provided the confidence and execution competence that the corporation expected. We are entering a new phase, aimed at exploring the potential of this infrastructure for new applications in data analysis and artificial intelligence. We are excited about the opportunities offered by the platform, such as IBM Watsonx, which integrates perfectly with IBM Netezza.”

Sicoob began its cognitive analytics journey in 2018 with IBM, supported by Netezza Performance Server technology. Today, through the same platform, Netezza has enabled the strategic transition to the cloud (AWS), given its compatibility with different cloud providers, ensuring much greater agility, flexibility and cost rationalization. This move was crucial to take advantage of the benefits of cloud computing and ensured the continuity and efficiency of these operations. In addition, it enables new AI technologies and practices in this evolution, aligning the cooperative's infrastructure with market trends.
