Red Hat Device Edge combined with Tyrrell Products and Intel processors provides manufacturers with scalable and optimized industrial automation

The industrial automation journey has become easier with Red Hat’s recent partnership with Tyrrell Products, a UK-based developer and distributor of intelligent IoT hardware and software solutions. The partnership focuses on delivering an intelligent machine automation controller powered by Intel processors and Red Hat Device Edge. This solution enables manufacturers to more easily run the most demanding applications in industry. Tyrrell Products IONA-XP will be the first in a line of control hardware platforms designed to support containerized industrial applications.

Industrial automation control systems are complex, requiring real-time performance and high reliability in harsh environments. They require advanced computing infrastructure, data storage and management systems, and cybersecurity protocols to protect sensitive data. Additionally, manufacturers are exploring new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), generative AI (GenAI), data aggregation, and computer vision, which require agile and scalable systems to improve IT and OT operations and explore new revenue opportunities. Through this partnership, Red Hat and Tyrrell Products aim to meet the needs of modern industries by offering:

A practical and pre-established platform, using Red Hat Device Edge to run critical applications reliably and with consistent performance.

●    Support for smart building applications, better integrating media controls and systems into a unified platform to improve energy management, predictive maintenance and safety, while minimizing costs.

●    Enhanced security to protect essential operations in machines and factories, with tested and production-ready components.

●    Real-time performance capability, with integrated fanless processing, powered by processors Intel Atom to support the next generation of IoT devices with built-in security and operational safety capabilities.

●    Better scalability and flexibility for optimized control and greater portability across edge deployments using a single integrated platform.

As part of this collaboration, manufacturers will also have long-term support from Red Hat, Tyrrell Products and Intel, making it easier to adapt industrial systems and applications to their needs.

For Francis Chow, vice president and general manager of vehicle and edge operating systems at Red Hat, the joint initiative with Tyrell and Intel promises to transform the way the industry designs its processes: “With the advancement of edge computing and intelligent workloads, the industrial sector has been undergoing a shift to better integrate IT and OT operations, breaking down organizational silos and replacing old and limiting industrial controls. This partnership with Tyrrell Products and Intel aims to deliver a fully integrated and flexible industrial automation control system capable of scaling to a wide variety of applications at the edge, whether in the factory or in smart buildings,” he said.
