  • Weighing only 19g, with GPS, Featuring RFID, eSIM, a rechargeable battery, and a chipset from Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. (“Qualcomm”), the new iBOI earring utilizes 4G NB-IoT connectivity for real-time monitoring and auditable ESG data.
  • In addition to the new temperature and motion sensors, the iBOI is made of highly durable material with a lifespan of five years.

Brazilian livestock farming is moving towards digitalization with the launch of the fourth generation of... iBOI, the IoT earring developed by Hardtech Agro iBOI, in technological collaboration with Qualcomm. The new device, now weighing only 19 grams, a significant reduction compared to the previous version, incorporates a Qualcomm chipset, recognized worldwide for its innovation, reliability, and performance in Internet of Things (IoT) solutions.

Through an IoT ear tag that integrates smart hardware with a Qualcomm chipset, proprietary software, and multi-operator 4G NB-IoT connectivity, the solution collects data, transforms information into intelligence, and promotes gains in efficiency, security, and management for beef cattle herds. iBOI was created with the purpose of bringing accessible, scalable, and robust technology, placing ranchers at the center of digital transformation.

The future of livestock farming is in the ear.

The iBOI platform was developed using an open architecture, allowing integration with management systems, financial institutions, and certification bodies. The solution offers a dynamic inventory updated in real time, complete lot management with control of entry and exit, length of stay, and movement between pastures and paddocks. Through GPS geolocation, producers can track routes, maps, and the entire history of herd movement, complemented by behavioral analyses such as number of steps, activity patterns, and detection of lack of movement.

The platform also provides zootechnical indicators, including ADG (Average Daily Gain) and weight extraction in arrobas (a Brazilian unit of weight), as well as a smart virtual fence with alerts for escapes and unauthorized movements. Body temperature measurement allows for the early identification of potential health problems, while management dashboards consolidate auditable data to support certifications, ESG requirements, and traceability for international markets.

With this set of information, each animal becomes a monitored and traceable digital asset, capable of generating value for the producer through more efficient herd management and the implementation of rural credit models that use the animal itself as collateral.

“More than just an IoT earring, iBOI represents an ecosystem that connects livestock farming to management, credit, and traceability. Our mission is to democratize access to technology in the field and accelerate Livestock Farming 4.0 in Brazil,” he states. Felippe Antonelle, Executive Vice President of UP2Tech.

New generation of iBOI earring – Technological highlights

The new generation of the iBOI earring features a lighter and more ergonomic design, weighing only 19 grams. The device integrates the Qualcomm chipset, a technology recognized for its energy efficiency and reliable performance in IoT applications, ensuring stable operation and optimized communication even in remote areas.

The ear tag incorporates GPS and a pedometer, allowing for monitoring of the animal's location, routes traveled, and activity levels over the past 24 hours. The body temperature sensor helps identify physiological changes early, aiding in quick decisions about the animal's health.

The solution also includes integrated passive RFID, replacing the traditional electronic ear tag while maintaining compatibility with commercially available readers. With multi-operator 4G NB-IoT connectivity, the device ensures greater signal availability in rural areas and continuous transmission of essential data for management and traceability.

The rechargeable 100% battery offers up to 24 months of autonomy, even with data transmission twice a day, and can be recharged via USB-C in approximately 30 minutes. Made of polypropylene (PP) with an IP67 water resistance rating, the iBOI has a lifespan of 5 years and can be reused after its wear cycle, reducing costs and minimizing electronic waste in the field.

“At Qualcomm, we believe in the power of technology to transform industries and drive global progress. This partnership with iBOI reflects our broad range of technological solutions, designed to meet the needs of all markets in a robust and efficient way. Bringing the advanced connectivity and reliability of our solutions to Brazilian livestock farming is not only a technological advancement, but also an opportunity to collaborate with a sector essential to the country's economic and sustainable development,” shares [name of spokesperson/company representative]. Diego Aguiar, Head of Sales at Qualcomm Brazil
