3.27 billion records were stolen. CLM recommends to change passwords immediately and check if your data is leaked

CLM, a value-added distributor specializing in cybersecurity, warns that there has been the biggest data leak of all time. Hackers, from the small breaches found in several companies, created a data lake of personal data on the Dark Web with 3.27 billion stolen records. There were emails, passwords, logins from companies like Gmail, Hotmail, Netflix and LinkedIn, all organized and offered to any hacker for 2 dollars a piece.

COMB “Compliation Of Many Breaches” is the name of this repository and the amount of information is such that CLM is recommending to its staff to change their passwords immediately, both personal and professional.

According to the founder of CLM, Francisco Camargo, people easily use the same password in various services, which facilitates the task of cybercriminals. However, this is a mistake. “The Gmail password probably works for Netflix, LinkedIn, credit card, Hotmail, Facebook, digital magazines and so on. And the password for WhatApp is probably the same as for the bank, or the email ”, he explains.

CLM recommends that, in view of this mega leak, people should check if their data are in COMB on the website: Have I been pwnd - a secure website recommended by leading information technology magazines and security operation centers.

Other immediate actions that companies and people must take are:

  • Immediately change your passwords, including those of financial institutions;
  • Use dual authentication and multi-factor authentication whenever it is proposed by a service;
  • Adopt a password management service;
  • Always use strong passwords, with numbers, uppercase letters, lowercase letters and special characters (@, #, $, % etc.);
  • Change passwords regularly.
