ABES reaffirms its commitment to improving the business environment in Brazil through the launch of the second edition of “LGPD: Code of Conduct for software and technology companies“, a revised and expanded publication. This code addresses relevant issues regarding the capture and processing of personal data, challenges that companies of different sizes face daily.
Held on February 20th at the InovaUSP auditorium, the event had online participation from Waldemar Gonçalves, CEO of the National Data Protection Authority (ANPD), who praised the initiative and highlighted the importance of self-regulation and the establishment of codes of conduct to strengthen the data protection culture in the country. Waldemar also highlighted the challenges that the ANPD faces, such as the need to expand its staff and infrastructure, in addition to the growing demand to deal with issues involving artificial intelligence. The organizers of the code, Daniella Caverni, Francisco Espuny, Carlos Eduardo Passerani Reolon and Thomaz Côrte Real, with the collaboration of the Mattos Filho team, played a fundamental role in the preparation of this book.

During the chat with the audience that attended the event in person and online, Daniella highlighted the importance of compliance, training and the urgent need to create a deep-rooted culture of data protection in Brazil. Thiago Luís Sombra, a lawyer at Mattos Filho, pointed out that the code was designed to be accessible and practical, aiming to ensure that companies of all sizes can implement it without difficulty.
Thomaz Côrte Real also recalled that ABES maintains other actions focused on data protection, such as free training offered to associate teams, which has benefited thousands of professionals since its implementation in 2022. The availability of LGPD diagnosis offered free of charge to companies, which aims to assist in verifying compliance and providing tips for improving the process, is another relevant support tool.
ABES aims to increase the number of people who undergo training annually and to update the Code of Conduct in the future, in accordance with new ANPD regulations. The idea of creating a certification mechanism for companies that follow the code's best practices was also mentioned as a future possibility.
“By making the digital version of the new Code of Conduct available on the ABES portal, the association reinforces its commitment to data protection and privacy in Brazil. ABES’ initiative is a significant step towards ensuring that personal data protection becomes an integral part of the business strategy of Brazilian companies, contributing to a safer and more reliable economic environment,” concluded Paulo Milliet Roque, President of the association.
