In day November 11th, ABES and ABGI are holding a live event dedicated to the Lei do Bem (Law of Good), shortly after the start of activities of the Technical Support Committee (CAT), established by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI). The event marks the 20th anniversary of Law No. 11.196/2005, considered the main instrument for tax incentives for research, development and innovation (R&D&I) activities in Brazil.
The legislation, regulated by Decree No. 5,798/2006, allows companies taxed under the Real Profit regime to deduct investments in projects involving the creation of new products, processes, or technological improvements. The types of projects covered range from basic research to applied research and experimental development, with emphasis on initiatives in areas of higher technological risk—fundamental for consistent and sustainable innovation.
During the live stream, Experts will discuss how companies can strategically and securely utilize tax benefits, as well as clarify doubts about reporting to the MCTI (Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation). Reporting is done through the submission of an electronic form and technical documentation that proves R&D activities. Projects may be rejected due to inconsistencies in information, lack of evidence of innovation, or inadequate classification of activities.
The live event will also discuss best practices in management and compliance, as well as propose ways to evolve the Innovation Law, expanding its impact across all sectors and regions of the country. The goal is to strengthen the competitiveness of Brazilian companies, stimulate the creation of skilled jobs, and promote national scientific and technological advancement.
