Organizations that incorporate sustainability into their strategy and operations – driven by agency AI and trusted data – outperform their peers in resilience, innovation, and financial returns.

Kyndryl, a global company and leader in mission-critical technology services, in collaboration with Microsoft, announced today the conclusions of the third Global Sustainability Barometer Study annual, conducted by Ecosystem. The study reveals that organizations focused on integration – those that align sustainability with business strategy, empower employees, and adopt advanced technologies such as AI – are generating measurable business value and lasting impact in today's rapidly changing world.
“We are seeing more leaders connecting policy, people, and purpose – embracing technological insights and AI Agents – to generate impact and not just report on sustainability,” said Suelen Scorsin, Corporate Citizenship Leader at Kyndryl Brazil. “In Brazil, we see progress in aligning IT and sustainability, but there is still room to expand the use of AI as an engine for environmental decisions, since only 231% of organizations use AI centrally for this purpose.”
Organizations Focused on Integration Lead the Way Globally
The 2025 Global Sustainability Barometer Study identifies a decisive shift from previous years: leading organizations are incorporating sustainability into core business processes to outperform their peers across different regions and sectors. These leaders are transforming sustainability into a value creation engine, driving resilience, competitiveness, and market differentiation. In Brazil, 421% of IT teams are already driving sustainability across the enterprise, not just within IT, a leap from 231% in 2024.
“The 2025 Global Sustainability Barometer Study shows that more than half of leading organizations now use predictive AI to anticipate and act on sustainability challenges – rather than just tracking and analyzing – making future-oriented intelligence central to sustainability strategy,” said Ricardo Davila, GM of Enterprise Partner Solutions at Microsoft. “We are proud to partner across the ecosystem to help every organization transform sustainability into a data-driven operational capability.”
Key Discoveries in Brazil:
- Central Driver of the Strategy: 88% of Brazilian organizations consider environmental sustainability a strategic priority; 52% have proactive or consistent initiatives, and only 15% have incorporated it as a central factor for innovation, cost reduction, and long-term resilience.
- Tangible Impacts of Sustainability: In Brazil, 57% states that, over the next three years, it expects AI to have a greater impact on its organization's sustainability outcomes by strengthening governance, labor practices, and community impact through smarter decisions and risk detection.
- Early Adoption of AI Agent: In Brazil, 37% of all organizations are piloting or deploying AI Agents for sustainability, with early adopters reporting measurable gains in cost savings, innovation, and compliance.
- Use of Environmental Data: Advanced Monitoring, Limited Application: Nearly 80% of Brazilian organizations monitor environmental metrics centrally, but only 48% use this data to support decisions and optimize results, highlighting an opportunity for evolution in the strategic use of information for sustainability.
- Alignment and Maturity of Sustainability in Brazilian Organizations: In Brazil, 92% of organizations report high alignment between technology and sustainability teams, but only 10% have sustainability integrated into their core business. The main motivators for accelerating the sustainability agenda are reducing operational costs (57%) and aligning with leadership values (48%), while the main barrier remains the difficulty in measuring ROI (57%).
“Organizations today have the opportunity to overcome long-standing challenges in bridging the gap between strategy and execution,” said Sash Mukherjee, Vice President of Insights at Ecosystem Industry.“Predictive AI and Agent AI create a closed-loop system where insight meets action. Predictive AI anticipates risks, while Agent AI responds in real time, transforming strategy into execution. When technology and business strategy align, organizations can truly incorporate measurable environmental outcomes into day-to-day operations.”
The study results are in line with the Kyndryl Readiness Report 2025 and recognize the deeper integration between sustainability and IT. The Readiness Report reveals that 27% of companies investing in IT modernization achieve sustainability-based benefits through efficiency, innovation, security, and compliance, while 22% cite improved energy efficiency or sustainability as a critical outcome for the ROI of digital transformation.
