Topics like these and others aimed at CIOs (Chief Information Officers) and IT and business leaders, including insights and trends that shape the future, such as accelerating business transformation, modernizing applications, infrastructure and operations, will be highlighted in theGartner CIO & IT Executive Conference 2025, which will be held from September 22nd to 24th in São Paulo (SP).

You Gartner Hype Cycles provide a graphical representation of the maturity and adoption of technologies and applications, and how they are potentially relevant to solving real business problems and exploring new opportunities. Machine clients

You machine clients Customers are non-human economic agents that purchase goods or services on behalf of individuals or organizations. Gartner estimates that three billion Internet-connected B2B machines could act as customers today, reaching eight billion by 2030. Examples include virtual personal assistants, smart appliances, connected cars, and Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled factory equipment.

"Machine customers will play a significant role in industries such as manufacturing, retail, and consumer goods, opening up new revenue and efficiency opportunities," says Resnick. "To capitalize, organizations must rethink their business models or risk being left behind."

AI Agents

AI agents can observe, make decisions, act, and achieve goals in their digital or physical environments to help organizations achieve their objectives. Using tools like Large Language Models (LLMs), organizations are creating and deploying AI agents to handle complex tasks. These agents can transform many industries by automating work in areas such as customer service, manufacturing, data analytics, content creation, and logistics.

Trust in AI agents remains limited due to concerns about their ability to predict and perform tasks accurately. Without human supervision, AI agents could make important decisions quickly before anyone notices. Gartner recommends that organizations include AI agents in strategic planning, understanding their capabilities and applications, especially as they become more independent and user-friendly.

Decision intelligence

Decision intelligence is a practical discipline that improves decision-making by understanding and structuring how decisions are made, as well as how results are evaluated, managed, and improved through feedback. By digitizing and modeling decisions as assets, it bridges the gap between insight and action to continuously improve the quality of decisions, actions, and results.

“The hype around Agentic AI and Generative AI, regulatory pressures on decision automation and recent global uncertainty have revealed weaknesses in traditional business processes and decision-making,” says Christian Stephan, Senior Director Analyst at Gartner. "In response, organizations now demand decision-making processes that deliver speed and quality, but are also consistent, compatible, cost-effective, and capable of handling complexity and change."

Programmable money

Programmable money is any form of digital money that can be programmed using software that determines its operation based on algorithmic criteria. It can rely on blockchain-enabled tokenization and smart contracts to increase the participation of economic actors and program value exchanges. Organizations will be required to engage with programmable money to connect with machine clients as new types of customers, as well as with business peers and collaborators.

"Programmable money is transformative for financial services providers, enabling new currency formats and digital asset markets," says Stephan. "It drives innovation in value creation, financing, and asset exchange, including machine-to-machine trading, reshaping supply and financial value chains."
