  • By combining embedded RFID with AI and advanced connectivity, the Dragonwing Q-6690 enables edge devices across retail, commercial, and industrial sectors to connect, compute, and interact in smarter, proximity-aware ways.
  • Leading OEMs, including Zebra, Honeywell, Urovo, HMD Secure, and CipherLab, are early adopters of this platform with commercial devices expected to be available in the coming months.

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. today announced a groundbreaking new processor, the Qualcomm Dragonwing™ Q-6690, which is the world's first enterprise mobile processor with fully integrated UHF RFID capabilities. The processor includes integrated 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, and ultra-wideband, delivering proximity-aware experiences and superior global connectivity. Designed to support a wide range of form factors, from rugged handheld devices to retail point-of-sale systems and smart kiosks, the Dragonwing Q-6690 offers OEMs and ODMs a scalable, upgrade-ready platform with software-configurable feature packages that can be updated remotely.

“The Dragonwing Q-6690 combines embedded RFID, AI, and next-generation wireless capabilities into a single, scalable platform designed to accelerate innovation in industries like retail, logistics, and manufacturing,” said Art Miller, vice president and head of retail, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “We’re particularly excited to work with retailers who need platforms that are not only powerful and connected, but also adaptable to evolving customer expectations, from smarter kiosks and wearables to real-time inventory analytics and contactless experiences.”

World's first enterprise mobile processor with fully integrated RFID capabilities

The Dragonwing Q-6690 is the world's first enterprise mobile processor with fully integrated RFID capabilities, eliminating the need for external RFID reader modules and enabling smaller, more efficient device designs. This integration facilitates the implementation of contactless, security-focused use cases such as access control, asset tracking, inventory management, and product authentication, ideal for retail, logistics, and industrial applications. Software-configurable resource packs

The Dragonwing Q-6690 features software-configurable feature packages that allow OEMs to tailor their offerings to their specific computing needs, multimedia capabilities, camera support, or peripheral configurations, with the ability to remotely update without redesigning the hardware. This modular approach not only accelerates time to market and reduces certification costs, but also extends product lifecycles by enabling over-the-air updates as customer needs evolve.

  • “At Decathlon, we are constantly looking for ways to elevate the customer experience while optimizing our operations,” said Hervé D'Halluin, RFID and Traceability Lead at Decathlon. “Since 2004, we have been leveraging RFID technology across our entire value chain. By 2019, we had already achieved 100% of RAIN RFID tagging on our products. Now, the Dragonwing Q-6690, with its fully integrated RFID and AI capabilities, represents a game-changer. It is set to maximize our operational efficiency, enhance the in-store customer experience more intelligently, and support our sustainability goals through improved product traceability.”
  • “At EssilorLuxottica, we believe that the integration of RFID into commercial devices is a key catalyst for redefining how consumers interact with products, enabling richer, more personalized engagement while opening new frontiers of innovation. Based on our experience in NFC-enabled applications, we see this advancement as unlocking even greater possibilities. It paves the way for scalable, elegant, and design-forward solutions—especially in categories like eyewear, where aesthetics are key—delivering seamless, consumer-centric experiences that set new standards for the industry,” commented Fabio Napol, Head of Business Process Innovation at EssilorLuxottica.
  • “Qualcomm’s integration of RFID—also known as RAIN technology—into the Dragonwing Q-6690 enables retailers and logistics companies to put RAIN-enabled devices in the hands of every employee, delivering unprecedented improvements in productivity and sales potential—from digital product passports and circularity to automated checkout, product authentication, asset tracking, and inventory management,” said Aileen Ryan, president and CEO of the RAIN Alliance. “This represents a radical shift that will democratize the Internet of Things, reshape industries, and create entirely new markets.”
