End-user spending on specialized GenAI models will reach US$1.1 billion by 2025

Global end-user spending on business models Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) are projected to total US$14.2 billion in 2025, according to the Gartner, Inc.. End-user spending on specialized GenAI models, which include domain-specific language models (domain-specific language models – DSLMs), totaling US$1.1 billion in 2025.

Specialized GenAI models are trained or fine-tuned based on industry-specific or business process-specific data. The way DSLMs are developed and implemented results in an impact that exceeds the direct costs they generate. Gartner predicts that by 2027, more than half of the GenAI models used by enterprises will be domain-specific (i.e., specific to an industry or business function), compared to 1% in 2024.

GenAI's core models, including Large Language Models (LLMs), are trained on large amounts of data and used for many different tasks. They are the first models to support GenAI and will continue to represent the largest area of corporate spending in the coming years,” he says Arunasree Cheparthi, Senior Principal Research Analyst at Gartner. "However, enterprises are also turning to more domain- or vertical-specific GenAI models because they offer better performance, cost, reliability, and relevance in specific enterprise use cases than baseline models."
