New phase of collaboration will expand the number of Red Hat services and applications in AWS Marketplace, further modernizing the cloud environment.

Red Hat and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have signed a strategic collaboration agreement (SCA) to scale the viability of open source solutions in the AWS Marketplace, expanding the long relationship date of the two companies. In this extension of the partnership, the leading open source company seeks to provide new technologies to a new range of customers and partners, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux AI (RHEL AI)Red Hat OpenShift AI and Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization, to solve essential business needs for application modernization, virtual machine (VM) migration, and artificial intelligence (AI) deployments.

Stefanie Chiras, Senior Vice President, Partner Ecosystem Success, said the new phase of the partnership with AWS represents even greater benefits for customers. “We are now extending that choice and flexibility not just to ‘where’ an organization runs its applications, but also ‘how,’ from containers to virtual machines, all using the same platform. And as AI becomes the next critical enterprise IT decision, we are making optionality a reality in accelerated computing infrastructure, enabling customers to select the hardware accelerators that make the most sense for their unique hybrid cloud AI strategies and workloads.”

Powering Virtualized Workloads on Modernized Infrastructure

As many organizations face increasing uncertainty and costs in managing their virtual infrastructure, they are navigating significant migrations to VMs in complex IT landscapes. To help address these needs, Red Hat is providing a unified experience for customers to more easily migrate VMs and containerized workloads with greater consistency and scalability as these organizations begin to implement modern platforms and infrastructure on their AI journey.

This effort includes driving support for the Red Hat OpenShift Service on AWS, a fully managed, turnkey application platform to help customers Use OpenShift Virtualization without challenges across your AWS environments. This helps streamline VM migrations and application modernization initiatives and includes support for virtualized Windows workloads in OpenShift Virtualization via Red Hat OpenShift Service on AWS. Additionally, Red Hat OpenShift will operate as a self-managed AWS EC2 offering on bare-metal instances (classic servers) to provide customers with greater flexibility in deploying virtualized and containerized workloads.

With the addition of OpenShift Virtualization and the virtualization migration toolkit, Red Hat OpenShift, makes VM migration easy. The solution is designed with the cloud in mind for full automation for day-one deployments and includes self-healing and reconciliation, applied to both containers and VM workloads. By running OpenShift Virtualization on AWS EC2 on baremetal instances, VM workloads can maintain similar levels of performance and redundancy, but operate on a more modern platform, allowing VMs and containers to interact directly with the underlying hardware and infrastructure to minimize administrative overhead and eliminate the need for a traditional hypervisor layer.

Unlocking the next era of AI innovation

As part of this collaboration, Red Hat is enhancing the availability of solutions such as RHEL AI and Red Hat OpenShift AI on AWS Marketplace, including “bring your own subscription” and private offerings supporting NVIDIA’s accelerated computing and software, including validation of the NVIDIA AI Enterprise software platform and NVIDIA NIM, a set of easy-to-use microservices designed for deploying high-performance AI model inference securely and reliably. Red Hat has offerings for additional AI accelerators and GPUs from leading chip vendors such as AMD and Intel. This enables organizations to leverage pre-built AI capabilities that can then be more easily scaled using Red Hat OpenShift AI on AWS, either in a self-managed manner or through built-in service capabilities.

The collaboration will be guided by a product release roadmap developed by Red Hat and AWS to bring these solutions to customers, as well as additional activities to better demonstrate how these offerings can be used in cloud environments to meet an organization’s business needs.
