On August 15, 2024, InovaUSP was the stage for the launch of Digital Transformation Observatory of the State of São Paulo, a collaboration between the University of São Paulo (USP) and the São Paulo Parliamentary Front for Science, Technology and Innovation (CTI). This project aims to accelerate digital transformation in São Paulo municipalities, promoting the digital, social and economic inclusion of citizens in a scenario of emerging technologies.
The event brought together representatives from several municipalities, as well as important partner institutions. Among them, ABES – Brazilian Association of Software Companies, which will play a fundamental role in the digital transformation of software companies in municipalities and communities, alongside other important entities.
ABES joins forces with institutions such as the Civil House of the State of São Paulo (Fraide Sales) and ABESE – Brazilian Association of Electronic Security Systems Companies, which will connect electronic security and technology companies to support the city’s digital transformation. There is also the participation of the “Ona Favela Tech” movement, which will focus on mobilizing and engaging 36 communities, proposing solutions adapted to their realities.
Other partner institutions include the National Network of Municipal Consortiums, which will engage municipalities in digital transformation actions, and the Institute of Exponential Technologies (Itex), which will manage the Caninos Loucos program, specializing in open hardware platforms for various technological applications. The Brazilian Internet of Things Forum will also play a relevant role, mobilizing entities to define good practices and standards in the use of IoT devices. Finally, the Technology Parks will support the engagement and delivery of digital solutions to municipalities and communities.
The partnership between USP and the Frente Parlamentar Paulista de CTI, at a time when digital transformation is a priority in public policies, highlights the importance of joint efforts between different sectors to create solutions that impact the entire society. InovaUSP’s participation reinforces the university’s commitment to the advancement of science, technology and innovation in Brazil. “Transforming knowledge into quality of life for the population is what we call innovation,” emphasized the director of Inova USP, Professor Marcelo Zuffo.
First Action of the Observatory
The Observatory's work has already begun, with a meeting promoted by InovaUSP that was attended by representatives from more than 20 cities and three Intermunicipal Consortiums. At this meeting, the objectives of the initiative were presented and several contributions were received, especially from cities that still face difficulties in implementing technology and connection.
The main demands include the areas of health, education and security. The Observatory's working groups will consider the different realities of each municipality, Metropolitan Region and Intermunicipal Consortiums in order to create personalized and effective solutions.
