The study “Career Panorama 2030: what to expect from professions by the end of the decade” also highlights which professions will become the most important in the next 5 years

The profession of data analyst and scientist will be the most important for the Brazilian job market by 2030. This is the conclusion of the study Career panorama 2030: what to expect from professions by the end of the decade, commissioned by TOTVS, the largest technology company in Brazil, from H2R Pesquisas Avançadas. This function was highlighted by 33% of the 477 participants in the survey, which was carried out during the TOTVS 2023 Universe. Next, professionals specializing in mental health (30%) and specialists in artificial intelligence and machine learning (30%) were mentioned. Each respondent could name up to three different occupations.
In general, the study reinforces that professions related to technology and business digitalization will be fundamental until the end of the decade, a consequence of the broad digital transformation of companies in recent years. Also highlighted among interviewees were the positions of information security analyst (27%) and business intelligence analyst (22%). The only area of emphasis that differs from IT is related to mental health, possibly as a reflection of the pandemic.
Most important hard and soft skills for the next 5 years
The TOTVS study also addressed which hard and soft skills professionals believe are the most important to develop over the next 5 years. When asked about technical skills (hard skills), the most cited is knowledge in artificial intelligence (48%), a topic that has been a constant topic in the world of technology. Other crucial hard skills for professionals, whether new to the job market or not, are: data analysis (40%), business analysis (26%), project management (23%), programming (23%) and cybersecurity (20%) .
In relation to soft skills (behavioral skills), emotional intelligence (41%) came in first place. Respondents believe that having joint skills, such as self-control, persistence and motivation, increase the chances of having a more successful career. Other important behavioral skills for the future, according to interviewees, are: analytical and critical thinking (31%), teamwork (27%) and creativity (25%).
The impact of AI on the labor market
The application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been debated in different areas and levels, and in the context of the job market it is no different. There are countless speculations about which tasks or professions will be replaced by technology, with an emphasis on more operational activities.
However, when asked about their fear of the negative impact of AI on their profession, 68% of the study respondents stated that they did not currently perceive the possibility of a negative impact on their careers. When asked how much they fear the advancement and use of AI in their careers, 78% do not show any fear regarding the advancement of AI, and 90% state that they are not afraid of losing their job to this technology.
For those who signaled some type of fear about the use of this technology (32%), the biggest insecurity concerns the extent to which human labor will be replaced or its demand will be reduced because of artificial intelligence. Other fears such as the loss of human contact in interactions with clients, consumers and co-workers and human dependence on AI to the point of no longer being able to develop or create an analysis were also highlighted.
