Actor and environmental activist Bruno Gagliasso is the first investor in the new solution, bmvdigital.global

Greentech BMV Global, a women-led group and pioneer in the creation of the biodiversity credits market, announces the launch of the bmvdigital.global platform. Developed in partnership with startup Mundi, the platform tokenizes assets generated by nature conservation, known as Sustainability Credit Units (UCS), based on a methodology developed by BMV Global itself and recognized in national and international legislation. Tokenization allows the negotiation of biodiversity credits around the world, facilitating the fractionation of the asset and integration into several other services, expanding the capillarity of the UCS.

Maria Tereza Umbelino, president and founder of BMV Global, explains that the methodology is the result of strategic partnerships with natural capital investors, such as owners of forest conservation areas; intellectual capital investors, such as technicians and scientists; and financial capital investors. “We started structuring the methodology in 2007 and, five years later, we consolidated the UCS as a conventional asset. Since then, several improvements have been implemented, enabling new applications for this commodity, even accepted as collateral in financial transactions.”

UCS are environmental commodities, also traded on the regulated market (B3) as CPR-Greens. They encompass 27 ecosystem services, that is, the benefits provided by the preserved forest, resulting from the conservation of its biodiversity. In this way, the UCS account for elements such as the carbon stock and the positive impacts of preserving the fauna, flora, springs and hydrological flow, among others.

A whitelabel platform

Developed with authorial 100% technology, in a project led by women, the new bmvdigital.global platform expands the reach and scalability of selling UCS in the global market, covering not only the B2B market, but also the B2C market. Currently, the purchase of a UCS requires the intermediation of agents, but the platform simplifies the acquisition of the asset, also allowing the purchase in fractional form, a common characteristic of tokenized digital assets. The expectation is to sell more than 1 million UCS in 12 months, moving more than R$ 150 million.

“We recognize the growing importance of sustainability and responsibility in today's business world. Therefore, we have developed an innovative solution that enables companies to easily integrate sustainability into their operations, optimizing financial results”, says Alessandra Umbelino Brandão, co-founder of BMV Global and CEO of Mundi. “Buyers can acquire the UCS to obtain the BMV seal (environmental certification) or transform it into a reserve of value for future exchanges for products and services. The use of NFTs is mainly aimed at increasing the security of the certification, making it inviolable”, he concludes.

Alessandra presented the system during the Web Summit. At the same time, the actor Bruno Gagliasso, an environmental activist and UNICEF ambassador, was on the main stage discussing the platform as a new venture.

Recently, Bruno adopted the BMV certification, incorporating the UCS in his Pousada Maria Flor (Fernando de Noronha, PE). He and João Marcello Gomes Pinto, founder of Sustentech, a leader in sustainability solutions and ESG strategies, learned about the licensing model for BMV products and decided to invest in the platform.

“I had the experience as a user of the certification when I acquired the Sustainability Credit Units (UCS) for my guesthouse Maria Flor, in Fernando de Noronha, which has the Noronha Carbon Zero Program, in which the goal is to neutralize 100% of carbon emissions. carbon on the island by 2050. With the BMV seal, we become the first inn to neutralize its environmental impact and become carbon neutral. The BMV seal attested to our commitment to ESG (environmental, social and governance) practices, to the protection and preservation of native forests and our investment in Brazilian biodiversity”, stated Bruno Gagliasso.

The bmvdigital.global solution, which uses Mundi technology – the result of a joint venture between BMV and Emana, is a pioneer in the negotiation of NFTs for the sale of UCS tokens. “The platform, based on the Polygon network, stands out for its low environmental impact and speed of transactions, allowing approximately 65,000 transactions per second and accepting payments via PIX, credit card or cryptocurrency”, explains Alessandra Brandão.

International Expansion

Currently, more than 1 million hectares of native forests are preserved, providing assets (UCS), and twice that number are in the process of joining the model. The methodology is already being applied in European countries, such as Portugal and Italy, and agreements have been signed to operate in China and Mozambique (Africa).

Asset tokenization has gained increasing relevance on the world stage. Trading UCS in the form of tokens allows companies, governments and individuals to invest in biodiversity conservation. By investing in these environmental commodities, positive results are achieved in the social, financial and environmental spheres. The entity (or person) that buys a UCS token contributes to the renewal of natural resources, offsetting the environmental impacts of its operations and using the asset to increase its valuation.

Sebrae and BMV partnership at Web Summit Rio

Greentech BMV participated in Sebrae's Entrepreneurial Capital acceleration program. In Mato Grosso, Sebrae uses the BMV model to incorporate ESG practices in SMEs. “This demonstrates the inclusion of small producers in the UCS supply chain and the dissemination of sustainability concepts among micro-entrepreneurs. Currently, 30% of investors are micro and small entrepreneurs”, adds Maria Tereza.
