The Municipality of Jundiaí (SP), 56 km from São Paulo (SP), recently won first place in the Municipal Governance Index, developed by the Federal Board of Directors (IGM/CFA) for the 4th consecutive year. The ranking was developed based on the average of important indicators that are monitored through the platform developed by Computer Company of Jundiaí (CIJUN), under the coordination of the Government and Finance Management Unit (UGGF) of the municipality: the Jundiaí Observatory.

The portal has 335 indicators linked to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), formulated by the UN (United Nations). They reveal the social, economic conditions and other dimensions of the city, such as data from the areas of Health, Education, Transport, Security, Economy, works in real time, among others. The Observatory also has 117 indicators aimed at Early Childhood, including data on vaccine coverage, oral health, hospitalizations and school enrollment.

Public management in the digital age

The Observatory was launched in 2017 and, since then, it has been modernized every year. Thanks to the portal, Jundiaí has been placed among important international indexes. “Our objective is to internationalize Jundiaí. Making all these indicators available is an important step in this direction”, observes Mayor Luiz Fernando Machado. “This is data that can now be easily viewed by anyone with internet access”, he adds.

The tool from the Jundiaí Observatory allows access to indicators with fewer clicks, facilitating navigability. Each indicator shows its metadata with calculation method, concept, periodicity, source and historical series. According to the president of CIJUN, Amauri Marquezi de Luca, the goal is to transform public data into useful information for planning and for the well-being of the population. “The citizen has free access to this data. It is through them that we can improve public policies”, summarizes the executive.

Monitoring of the government plan

In the city of Jundiaí, through the Observatory, it is also possible to have access to the Government Plan of the current administration, so that the population can follow in detail, in thematic areas, all initiatives in execution, delivered, paralyzed or not started. In addition, a specific page of the city's Pluriannual Plan (PPA) was launched on the portal.

It is an intelligent management tool, which allows citizens to observe the progress of programs and investments planned for the municipality in a more transparent way, including images in real time. The Jundiaí Observatory has established itself as a relevant digital government resource.

It is worth remembering that the PPA is a medium-term plan that establishes the guidelines, objectives and goals to be followed by the government over a four-year period. “The most important thing is to know, as a citizen, where public money is spent and, above all, to see details of everything the administration has done for its citizens. The citizen of Jundiaí ends up participating in the management of the city”, highlights Marquezi. The most accessed page of the Jundiaí Observatory is the one that gives information about the works in progress in the city. This means that people from Jundiaí are aware of where their tax money is going.
