Taking as a starting point that MARAEY will be a new neighborhood – with four five-star hotels, a shopping mall, a hospital, eight thousand residences, a university and a school – the automation and digitalization provided by Siemens reveal themselves by ingeniously handling the data collected throughout the complex within the system's brain, called the MindSphere. Thanks to artificial intelligence (AI) and previous programming, the best actions are analyzed and determined in each case for real-time decision making.

Smart lighting, wildlife monitoring via satellite and internet of things

The smart construction concept is the most modern in terms of planning and execution, positioning MARAEY as a project committed to ESG practices. Technologies were analyzed in order to obtain a centralized management in the different buildings of the enterprise (residential, hotel, commercial, hospital, school, among others). There will be lighting automation, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) equipment such as valves, thermostats, sensors and gauges, fire protection, access control, interior comfort, occupant safety and efficient systems for maintenance and operation during the life cycle of buildings.

Some features of the integrated management of sanitation, electricity, potable water, irrigation and telecommunications services are: rainwater control, intelligent lighting; sustainable gardening, urban solid waste management, processing of environmental parameters to measure CO2, air quality and noise levels, control and satellite monitoring of fauna and flora and bodies of water (pond, canal, flood areas).

“Bringing Siemens’ purpose-built technology into the complex is the right choice to have a sustainable enterprise aligned with the most innovative practices in terms of energy efficiency, intelligent building management and decarbonization”, says Emilio Izquierdo, CEO of MARAEY .

Sergio Jacobsen, vice president of Smart Infrastructure at Siemens, defended the partnership with the enterprise. “Siemens will bring customized solutions according to MARAEY's needs, reinforcing our proposal to create new business models. Technology for smart buildings, energy and electrification will work in favor of building a sustainable complex in line with our values. Our mission is to provide our customers with the same vision of sustainability that we have for the survival of the planet”, he maintained.

Some of the Siemens technologies that will be used are: Building Management Systems (BMS), building management system; Desigo CC, management platform with open source design, integration of IoT (Internet of Things) devices and electric vehicle charging stations; TALON Workstation, network interface; and KNX System: Konnex (KNX), European standard for home automation and control for the residential and service sector.

Energy efficiency, with the integration of renewable sources, and electric mobility

Smart buildings are those where the energy supply is uninterrupted and secure, with energy efficiency, low carbon footprint and economy. For MARAEY, Siemens will create a customized solution based on Totally Integrated Power (TIP), with the efficient delivery of energy from the grid connection to final consumption, through the integration of renewables and backup systems. The Digital Twin is an essential tool for smart city management, as it allows simulating specific conditions and changes in the system before departing for a physical strategy.

The complex’s sanitation will also rely on innovative management and operation practices for the operating systems of water and sewage network infrastructure, treatment plants (ETEs) and irrigation, minimizing water loss and leakage through sensors installed on digital platforms ( cloud).

MARAEY will also count on Siemens' expertise in the development and supply of chargers for electric vehicles, electrocenters and management and operation software, contemplating a solution for the operation of assets and users.
