The Brazilian technology multinational consumes 100% of clean energy in its data centers, in addition to maintaining a training program aimed at women developers, among other initiatives
TIVIT, a Brazilian multinational and one stop shop of technology, maintains several actions focused on ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance), which demonstrates its commitment to all stakeholders in contact with the company, such as customers, employees, the community in which it operates and suppliers/business partners.
“The ESG agenda, as it has an international scope, is part of the daily lives of large companies, regardless of their sector of activity. With TIVIT, this is no different, and we are dedicated to growing sustainably in all aspects of the business, even choosing partners with the same purpose”, says Tatiana Lorenzi, Director of People and Culture at TIVIT.
See below the company's main ESG actions.
House of Winds
TIVIT stopped emitting 2,308.82 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) last year because it adopted wind power generation in the last quarter of 2021. The production from this clean energy matrix comes from the Wind Farm of Vento São Mizael, in the Rio Grande do Norte, and takes place through a partnership with Casa dos Ventos, Vulcabras and Fundo Perfin. The initiative was recognized by the market, with the winning of the Google Cloud Global Social Impact Partner of the Year, referring to 2021, in the Sustainability category.
“It is a huge impact, as more than 16 thousand trees would be needed for the volume that was no longer issued by TIVIT in the last three months of 2021”, explains Paulo Freitas, CFO of TIVIT. The decrease in carbon emissions should be greater this year, as it will cover all four quarters, and not just the last one, as occurred in 2021. TIVIT started to consume 100% of clean energy in its data centers, which are among the largest in Latin America. There is even surplus production of this energy, which is already being injected into the National Electric Grid, helping to neutralize Brazil's carbon footprint.
EMS - Environmental Management System
There are also other TIVIT initiatives aimed at the Environment – E, for ESG. The creation of the EMS (Environmental Management System) arose from the need to have an area dedicated to the environmental issue, in addition to providing support to the operational excellence team in ISO 14001 certification. such as solid waste management, procedures with environmental agencies, monitoring of environmental indicators, documentation, compliance with legal requirements, among other topics. This new area helps TIVIT ensure compliance with current legislation, as well as contributing to integrating environmental management into daily activities, promoting reuse, recycling and reduction of resource consumption, which minimizes environmental impacts.
All TIVIT sites already have scales and heavy waste, according to type and generation. According to the company's internal control, 45% of waste was destined for recycling in 2021. TIVIT offers a sustainability kit so that its employees use less plastic. Since 2021, the kit has been available to all employees, with delivery already at onboarding???????? In all company offices, disposable plastic is no longer available.
Accelerates Devs
TIVIT maintains the Acelera Devs – Women training program, preparing this public with concepts and programming languages through knowledge trails, mentoring and acting in real company projects, with the right to benefits, such as a scholarship, medical assistance and reimbursement for courses and certificates.
In the first edition, 50 women were qualified in the selection process, which evaluated programming logic and soft skills, among other skills. After six months, 21 of them completed the course, becoming developers, hired by TIVIT and other technology companies. Counting Acelera Devs graduates, TIVIT hired 285 women in recent months.
“Companies play an important social role and need to create means to increase the participation of women and other minorities. Talent training is undoubtedly one of the best ways to contribute to society, in addition to meeting the demand of the technology market”, says Tatiana Lorenzi, Director of People and Culture at TIVIT.
TIVIT Institute
TIVIT annually trains a group for the TIVIT Institute, a company project focused on preparing young people from public schools to enter the job market. Since 2017, when the project was created, 31% of the students are in professional experiences or studying at university. Many students leave the project already taking part in the selection processes of large companies. In the last edition, of the 35 participants, 17 were already in process, and, during the graduation ceremony, five of them received the news that they were approved and were employed.
Donation for setting up a studio in state public schools
TIVIT made it possible this year to acquire equipment for setting up a studio at the Professor Leopoldo Santana State School, located in the Capão Redondo neighborhood, in the south zone of the city of São Paulo. The action was carried out by the TIVIT Institute in partnership with Furukawa Electric and Klint. The TIVIT Institute, the company's social arm, builds and maintains relationships with public schools in order to prepare young students to enter the job market.
The initiative was carried out through Furukawa's Green IT Program, which focuses on preserving the environment with the proper collection and disposal of electronic and energy cables discarded by companies. This material is sent by Furukawa for recycling, while companies that join the program, such as TIVIT, receive a bonus in the form of a green check, which can be donated to an institution.
TIVIT donated 2.5 tons of cables, and the amount reversed in the green check was fully used to purchase the studio's electronic equipment, such as a camera, microphones, computer and air conditioning. Part of that money was spent on acoustic cladding. Klint supported the tax and reimbursement with Furukawa.
