The initiative has the support of the multinational Huawei, the Mediterranean Institute of Risk, Environment and Sustainable Development – IMREED and the company Sikur
The Inatel Cyber Security Center (CxSC), in partnership with Huawei, IMREED and Sikur, will offer a free course on Telecommunications, Mobile Networks and Cyber Security to national ISPs (Internet Service Providers), who are preparing to start its operations in the fifth generation of mobile communications, 5G. The intention is to train, between June and July 2022, about 120 employees to work with the main technologies and networks that make up the world of telecommunications, as well as to present the principles, fundamentals and technological evolutions of mobile networks, 1G to 5G, and the main cybersecurity techniques that should be applied to them.
The course will be offered in person, at the Inatel campus in Santa Rita do Sapucaí, and will last 32 hours, divided into theoretical and practical activities. Practical activities will be carried out in the institution's laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art devices provided by Huawei and also with security systems and case studies provided by Sikur and IMREED. “The course on Telecommunications, Mobile Networks and Cyber Security in 5G at Inatel comes at a good time because, in addition to large operators, regional ISPs also invest in building their networks. In addition, the technology will be applied in the various verticals of the industry and, therefore, the training of qualified professionals in the area is very important. Huawei invests more than U$ 1Bi a year in cybersecurity and actively supports the initiative of Inatel CxSC (Cyber Security Center)”, emphasizes Marcelo Motta, Huawei's Director of Solutions and Cybersecurity for Latin America.
The initiative is the first training offered by the Cyber Security Center since its launch in 2021. With a team of about 30 members, including professors, specialists, interns and Scientific Initiation Scholars, the Center achieved several goals in its first year of work, thanks to the strong support of the partners. The team has published research papers at national and international conferences, with an article in the IEEE Sensor Letters journal highlighted. He also made presentations at important industry events and promoted competitions related to the topic, involving undergraduate students.
The partnership foresees, for the second half of 2022, the creation of a second training focused on Private Networks, Edge, Cloud Computing, IoT and Artificial Intelligence. “In addition to the courses, we are also working on other activities for training and disseminating knowledge in the area of LGPD (General Data Protection Law), in information on the main cyber threats and measures to mitigate and prevent them and in the promotion of the Second Forum National Cybersecurity, which should take place in October 2022”, highlights the assistant coordinator of the CxSC, Professor Guilherme Aquino.
