Capital of Paraná will be the first to receive the project, which will develop a series of solutions for testing the 5G network with a focus on the concept of smart cities and improving the lives of customers.

TIM Brasil and Huawei announced this Thursday (02/03), during the Mobile World Congress, in Barcelona, the signing of a collaboration agreement (MoU) for the development of the project "5G city”, an initiative that intends to work on the smart city concept from the implementation of 5G networks, anticipating the evolution of technology, monitoring networks and improving the user experience. The first city chosen will be the capital of Paraná, Curitiba. The agreement is valid for two years and can be extended, and the first tests must be completed by December 2023.

The cooperation between the companies allowed the expansion and implementation of 2, 3, 4 and 5G networks. TIM and Huawei are responsible for building the largest network based on mMIMO (massive MIMO) in the world, a resource that extends the range of signal transmission, using a large number of antennas, and that helps in the delivery of data with better quality. For the 5G City project, the mMIMO network can help achieve the highest 5G speeds with very low latency, one of the differentiators of the next mobile network technology.

Leader in 4G coverage and pioneer in 5G projects in Brazil, TIM continues to work to offer the best network and the best experience for the final consumer. For Leonardo Capdeville, CTIO of TIM Brasil, the move is part of the operator's consolidated strategy to expand the 5G service and the objective of making TIM one of the main mobile operators in the world: “The 5G City project is an offshoot of the successful work carried out by TIM, in partnership with Huawei, to implement 5G networks in Brazil. We are very pleased to build, in Curitiba, a project that can have a great impact on economic development for the entire country”.

The “5G City” project consists of the implementation of wide 5G coverage for the city. One of the objectives is, in addition to monitoring the network, to map opportunities to improve the user experience through the development of sustainable equipment and solutions, with low energy consumption and cost, and that maintain the high quality of service delivery.

We are very happy to take our partnership project with TIM to Curitiba to develop a high-end 5G network. Our purpose is to keep the operator in a position of global leadership for the development of 5G networks. Huawei and TIM have in common the search for innovation and excellence, and I believe that this will be another successful project in the history of companies for Brazilian telecommunications”, says Gustavo H. Nogueira, Huawei's sales director.
