The Mixed Parliamentary Front for Artificial Intelligence was installed this Wednesday (24/11/2021) at the National Congress. The group of deputies and senators intends to act as an observatory for future updates of the legal framework for artificial intelligence, in addition to monitoring and supporting projects that address the issue in the most diverse aspects of life, such as health, education and security. The Minister of Science and Technology, Marcos Pontes, participated in the event.
Loren Spindola, Leader of the Working Group on AI, and Andriei Gutierrez, Leader of the Regulatory Committee and Coordinator of Movimento Brasil, País Digital, represented ABES at the launch. “I believe it is a relevant initiative. We need everyone to be engaged to be able to take advantage of the full potential of AI and create an enabling environment for the development of technology. The joint work of the Chamber and the Senate for the Legal Framework of the AI is fundamental”, highlighted Loren.
“I had the tremendous honor to speak for the private sector at this launch. I underscored the importance of collaboration between the parliamentary fronts of AI and Digital Economy and Citizenship so that we can think of a Nation project and put Brazil on the path of economic, social and inclusive development in the 21st century, which, without a doubt, will be digital and will depend responsible use of AI systems”, highlighted Andriei.

The Front is chaired by Deputy Eduardo Bismarck (PDT-CE), author of Bill 21/20, which regulates the Legal Framework for Artificial Intelligence in Brazil. The text has already been approved in the Chamber and is being analyzed in the Senate.
According to Bismarck, the group aims to always seek an updated legal system on the subject. “May the machine serve the human being. Artificial intelligence technology is growing exponentially. The objective of the front is for Congress to unite and propose legislation that will help in the country's development. The partnership between the Federal Government, the Executive, the Judiciary and Legislative powers and civil society is important. That's what the front is for, for us to dialogue and I feel very honored to receive our Minister of Science, Technology and Innovations here today," he said.
Deputy Luisa Canziani (PTB-PR) highlighted that developing the sector can place the country in the 21st century in the area of technology. "The launch of the front is a space that will discuss and propose initiatives for one of the most important themes for Brazil and the world," he said.

The MCTI is responsible for several policies and initiatives aimed at the sector. “Artificial Intelligence is one of the most important fronts in technology development now and in the future. Minister Marcos Pontes highlighted that it is necessary to qualify young people for the area, improve the sector's budget and guarantee infrastructure so that the area can develop. “Science and technology are transversal. When we talk about the country's infrastructure, health development, agricultural development, we are talking about the need for the development of science and technology. There are two areas that are strategic for the planet, one is the digital transformation, which includes Artificial Intelligence, and the other is biotechnology”, highlighted the minister at the end of the event.
