Dassault Systèmes announced an agreement to supply the 3DEXPERIENCE platform to the BR Shuttle Project, promoted by some of the main universities in Brazil for the collaborative development of a new autonomous and electric vehicle aimed at passenger transport. A pioneer in the country and in Latin America, the program aims to strengthen the exchange of knowledge, creating a fully open database for the construction of new technologies and mobility solutions that will contribute to the development of Brazil, placing the country in the spotlight International.
“Around the world, Dassault Systèmes technology is being used in open innovation processes, which stand out for their fundamental collaborative work to accelerate and optimize the development of new solutions that can help improve life in cities, empower the force of the future and creating a better world for people, through sustainable growth ”, says Ligia Oliveira, leader of the educational area of Dassault Systèmes for all of Latin America. “The BR Shuttle Project brings innovation to students and future professionals, improving urban mobility and increasing energy efficiency, in addition to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles. This is the commitment to the future that led Dassault Systèmes to support this initiative, making its platform available as the heart of the project ”.
The project focuses on vehicle safety and proposes the complete development of a totally modern passenger transport vehicle, with a capacity for up to eight people. This minibus can be used in the neighborhood streets in the future, connecting people to public transport corridors. The proposal is to create a model with electric propulsion and an active safety system for driver assistance (ADAS - Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, in English) varying from level L0 (audible warnings or momentary assistance) to level L5 (fully autonomous vehicle).
Universities are working together to develop components, control hardware and security systems. The combination of resources based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) with modeling and simulation applications will allow users of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform to increase and interpret their data more completely and quickly, regardless of their location. At each new stage of development, studies will be launched and the results will be shared with the market. It will be possible to leverage the virtual creation of each stage, through the experience of Virtual Twin (Virtual Twin), which simulates and anticipates results without the need for tests in the real world. This unleashes a universe of unprecedented collaboration opportunities, promoting innovation and facilitating planning and execution throughout the production chain.
“We will use the 3DEXPERIENCE platform to organize and accelerate these steps. With simulation and the use of technological resources, we gained a lot of agility and intelligence to cross the tested information and to expand the capacity of guidance and management of teachers ”, says Roberto Bortolussi, Professor at Centro Universitário FEI and one of the creators of the project.
In addition to companies in the automotive sector, important universities already support the initiative such as: Centro Universitário FEI, UNICAMP, University of São Paulo (USP), Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM), Federal University of Santa Maria do Rio Grande do Sul (UFSM) , Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ).
“Because we are working remotely, development will continue regardless of the Covid-19 pandemic,” says Marco Barreto, professor at Centro Universitário FEI, indicating that the BR Shuttle Project is expected to last three years and thirty people are already part of the development team. "New companies and universities should participate in the initiative in the coming months", he concludes.
