In addition to mythological tales, the legend of the unicorn comes to life in the form of startups that currently reach the value of 1 billion dollars. But, what brings a startup to this level? The answer, according to journalist Daniel Bergamasco, is: the creation of a solution better suited to the needs of everyday life.
Author of the book “From the idea to the billion”, Daniel participated in the trail Refresh of the ABES Conference 2020, on September 29, and commented that the “startup is a state of mind. This translates well the way to be focused on the solution. To write my book, I went to get to know some unicorn startups up close and their trajectories ”.
Daniel assesses that successful companies differ in management methods. “When I covered the process of hiring Stone's trainees - financial services and payments fintech - I noticed something out of the norms. Of the 70 thousand candidates, only 4 were chosen for the selection process that would take place in a hotel in the interior of São Paulo. For that weekend, more than 200 company executives arrived from various parts of the country, for this evaluation with the future trainees. What do you get out of that? It is necessary to understand the culture and similarity that these candidates have with the company and vice versa ”.
Communication and transparency
For the journalist, it is essential to have frequent meetings between CEOs and teams. “This reveals what is fundamental to the company's growth: transparency. When important matters are shared with the whole, there is no noise in communication, as everyone will understand what is actually happening within the company ”.
Another point highlighted by Daniel Bergamasco was the encouragement of autonomy. “In a selection process, an employee can be asked to participate in the hiring of his own boss. This is to understand the culture and corporate need. With everyone rowing in favor, the boat goes in the same direction ”.
“Within management practices, it is necessary to be very careful, not only to look at the technical quality of the employee, but to observe whether he has similarity with the company's culture, ethics in interpersonal relations. In other words, innovation is a method, management practice. It's not a mess! ”, He concluded.
