Independent study reveals that one in four teams do not have executive support to implement
data protection strategies
THE Arcserve, a pioneer in unified data resilience solutions, has released its State of Enterprise Data Resilience report. The independent survey of senior IT professionals at organizations of all sizes reveals that while most recognize the critical importance of proprietary data to their operations, more than 251,000 respondents are unable to say with confidence that their company leaders are taking protecting that data seriously.
“The impact of a data outage is multifaceted, affecting operations, finances, regulatory compliance and reputation. We’ve all seen recent stories that have made headlines. What’s not talked about as much are the companies that, by successfully implementing a 3-2-1-1 backup strategy, are preventing or quickly remediating the impacts of cyberattacks. Today’s report shows that many are well prepared, but many remain vulnerable,” said Chris Babel, CEO of Arcserve.
Key findings from Arcserve’s survey of IT leaders include:
- 80% of respondents indicated that their organization was hit by a ransomware attack
- 40% of companies suffered data loss due to a Software as a Service application breach last year, and yet only 42% of all SaaS applications are monitored and secured by the organization, leaving the rest in the hands of third parties or “unattended”
- On average, 30% of respondents' data could not be recovered after a successful ransomware attack
- Nearly half answered “yes” when asked if they had suffered a significant loss of revenue due to data incidents
- Looking at their current stance, only 31% are confident in their ability to recover within 24 hours.
Today, the best practice for effective ransomware resilience and data loss prevention is the 3-2-1-1 backup strategy, which consists of having three copies of a company’s data; storing backups on two different types of media; keeping one copy of the data off-site; and ensuring that one of the copies is immutable. There is still much work to be done in this area: nearly a quarter of respondents say their organization has not yet adopted a 3-2-1-1 backup strategy.
